Honestly though it kind of seems like Hasbro has been pulling back on everything except Transformers, but w/ the amount they expect people to pay for them which has gotten ridiculously out of hand I don't see them doing so great. I mean literally 7 years ago in 2009 you could get Deluxe Transformers figures for $10, 2004-2008 those same figures were only $7, in 2012 they went from $10 to $12, and now they want $15, or $16 so in about 7, or 8 years they doubled the price of the Deluxe figures which had been in about the $5-$7 range since the 1980s. Inflation does NOT work like that. Hell look at the Ninja Turtles they're just about the same price now that they were back in the 80's back then they were $5.99, and now they're what about $7.99 so in 30 years they've gone up all of $2, and Hasbro is raising the prices by double in 6, or 7 years. Not smart in my opinion. |

Mentioning G.I. Joe in the same breath with those flash in the pan, rinky-dink things is an insult. Where would Hasbro be without G.I. Joe? Did this Brian Goldner grow up playing with My Little Ponys?

I expect to see and hear nothing new about this brand until the next film in 2018.
If we get anything, it will be more of the same product we've received since 2014 in the 50th Anniversary line-up. Hopefully, they'll mix in some of the prior HTF SDCC Exclusives and 2012-2013 Concept Vault like this: and this

The car in that MASK pic looks like the Mach whatever from the Speed Racer movie a few years ago. It's cool but it dashes any hopes of seeing the original aesthetic & anything pulled from the original molds.

Deluxes were 9.99 when Hasbro introduced the standardized price point in 1996. Before that is irrelevant as the Transformers brand had a highly fractured price system with many items only separated by a couple dollars. Deluxes remained that price until 2009, when we saw some of the most complicated mass market Transformers ever (including figures that outclassed the earlier Mega class in regards to part counts and even size). That held until 2012, when we saw the assortment hit $15, and aside from the brief dip in 2013, has remained the "standard" range. With that, we've seen retailers be FAR less apt to use low end toys as loss leaders (hence, why it was somewhat common to see deluxe Transformers for $7-ish around Christmas at Walmart). According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, $9.99 in 1996 is about $15.09 today. It is simply more jarring because toys compensated for YEARS of being below inflation in the span of a couple years. Quote:

Which is moot since TMNT figures are FAR cheaper to produce than Transformers. Again, prices are actually in line with inflation, we just got there more abruptly than most other segments of the market.

On the subject of this news...
It doesn't surprise me, but it saddens me to see Joe sidelined so much. I'm not expecting much this year, and don't expect to see anything significant until that next movie comes into play. Whenever THAT is.
