Just wanted to know what you all thought of ARAH figures on reproduction cards. Outsidetheboxvintagetoys on E bay has some he's selling. He calls them restorations but I think they're reproductions.
Have you all heard of this and what are your thoughts?

There are a lot of folks who make these.
I suppose you could call them what you will. As long as they are not trying to pass them off as the real deal it really should not matter. If you want to check out some of these as finished products search for: The Vintage Carding Restoration Thread. There are several of us who purchase these kits and restore the figures to original condition. Personally I love mine. It's a very nice comparison to the original at a fraction of the cost. But they are what they are. They are not the genuine article. But how else would you own unpunched mint?

It appears he's taking Beggars Canyon kits and carding up the figures. The kits are about $12 plus shipping and the figure vary by their completeness, but all in all they aren't that bad of price considering he's doing all the work for you.
I tried my hand at a few and just wasn't able to get the results I liked, and at $12 bucks a pop, there's no room for error... But a 100% complete repro carded figure like a BAT for $85 is pretty neat.

There are a few sellers selling these. It all comes down to the listing and some sellers walk that fine line between deception and culpability. I have seen some sellers doing this without mentioning the fact that they are repro card backs at all only to slip in a photo of the full back of the card, as if to show you how good the condition is, where at the very bottom in fine print you can see where the "reproduction" is-IF YOU KNOW TO LOOK FOR IT. Technically it's there to see but there is no mention of it in the listing and the photo isn't really calling attention to the reproduction disclaimer. Nothing against BCT, I own a few full sets of their Joe Repros and really enjoy them and can't recommend them enough! It's the sellers who can be shady at times. I have even seen one seller who is bragging, "NON PUNCHED HOLE." Again, it is technically true but a non punched hole on a Repro card is hardly anything to celebrate and again no mention of reproduction. There are, to be fair sellers who do mention this. I think BCT even sells some their now recarded figures on ebay with a very honest listing. My stance has always been, A) Know what you're collecting. with the internet there is little excuse not to do your research and B) if you feel the seller is being less than forth coming, even if satisfying the technical obligations of EBAY, I'd still avoid him. If you're interested i your own cardbacks you can just order them from BCT yourself. I order mine per full set and it's a little cheaper that way. I hope they will one day make a generic bubble to fit the larger Modern Era figures as Hasbro never really finished the 25th single carded line. I really LOVe how BCT is now ding vehicle driver card backs with old box art and had hoped Hasbro might have done this since 2007 but C'est la vie.

There are some cardbacks that were made from various artworks, since the exact figure was released with a vehicle or a mail-in figure, etc so they are missing the original full cardbacks. I think that's kind of cool, and these could be a nice piece in your collection. But first think about what Cross Country just mentioned. You have to be careful with what you purchase.

I love the custom cards for mail away figures and drivers (hooded Cobra Commander, Zartan, Starduster, etc.). Some of my favorite pieces in my collection.

I really like the custom cardbacks for the BLACK MAJOR figures. It would be awesome to have one of all my Black Major figures on a custom cardback , especially with all the different color variants

Thank you guys so much. I had never heard of these and will be checking them out. Especially, the ones that never had their own cards. I agree that those really look great and it's a shame Hasbro didn't think think to do that. Sometimes it takes the fans to really do justice to something.

This stuff happens a lot in the transformers market where people make and sell reproduction packaging of original vintage toys. Personally, i have tried it because I love the vintage packaging, but I have found that there is something lacking for me. Maybe it's the fact that I know the packaging is not authentic, not sure. So I am focusing my collection on good quality vintage items in high grade packaging, both for transformers and GI Joe. That gets expensive but it's what I have found that I love.
