It's always good to see an actor be enthusiastic about a role and really take ownership of it. There seems to be a lot of that lately with the super hero stuff, with Chris Evans and Chris Pratt doing charity stuff in costume, Robert Downey Jr giving a kid a bionic arm, and guys like Jason Momoa or the Rock gushing about their upcoming roles.
That being said, I have zero interest in a Deadpool movie. The character is funny for about five minutes in the comics, then it just gets old. It might end up being fun, in a sort of Ferris Bueller crossed with Raoul Duke and Jack Torrance sort of way. But I'm keeping my expectations low. |

Ryan Reynolds Fighting For Deadpool To Be R-Rated | Comicbook.com
By Jamie Lovett 03/30/2015 The rating for the upcoming Deadpool movie has been a point of some contention. Many fans feel that a Deadpool movie can’t be done properly without the gory freedom of an R rating, but to give it such a rating may hurt the film’s chances of box office success by preventing Wade’s teenaged fans from getting in on the fun. Star Ryan Reynolds posted to Twitter today, responding to a question about the rating. Seems he’s fighting hard, even yelling, to try to get Deadpool an R rating. The demand for an R rating is interesting, and seems to be a demand for an old school kind of Deadpool. When first introduced in the early 1990s, Deadpool was a serious business, grim n’ gritty assassin who specialized in brutal violence, the kind of thing that would demand an R rating. Modern Deadpool has a much more comedic tone, and – with the exception of his Marvel MAX titles – has fit solidly into the standard “PG-13” tone of most superhero comics. It will be interesting to see which version of Deadpool, modern or classic, eventually wins out.. Deadpool is currently filming and will open in theaters February 12, 2016.

I don't understand the uproar about Deadpool and an R-rating.
an R-rating would be box office death for the movie in February....and that'd be all she wrote for Wade at Fox. There is tons they can do with Deadpool at 12A..... |

It'll be PG-13. I'd put money on it. Deadpool doesn't need blood and swearing to be funny. As the article notes: Deadpool has ALWAYS been PG-13 ish, minus one MAX series.
And I'd also put money that the "Deadpool: Super-Extreme Deluxe Collecter's Limited Unrated Director's Cut" (possibly the literal title) with CGI blood and R-Rated material will be announced before the movie even hits theaters, and maybe even shilled (in a fourth-wall breaking bit) within the movie itself. The clamor to make it R-rated and Reynolds "fighting" for it is just pandering to a certain segment of the fanboys (and girls), a segment which seems to gravitate towards the Deadpool character/property for some reason. |

only character who really needs an R rated movie is The Punisher.

I dunno, I could see it making money if it were rated R, and they went all out with the humor and violence. Stuff like "Ted", "The Heat", "Bridesmaids", "Neighbors", "The Hangover", and Fox's own "Kingsman: The Secret Service" have all done well with an R rating. And they all have the sort of juvenile appeal that Deadpool should have. I just don't see this movie being a huge hit regardless of the rating. Not to mention that Ryan Reynolds has been in three of the worst regarded comic book movies already with "Blade Trinity", "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "Green Lantern". Though I thought GL was good, and Wolverine is underrated.

Punisher War Zone gloried in R-rated violence and failed at the box office. Killing any small amount of good will Thomas Jane's Punisher film had gained in DVD sales.

well, PWZ and K:TSS two examples of gorey violence being largely OTT and not needed. Much as I enjoyed Kingsman, they could've toned down the violence easily.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was good. Better than a couple of the others in the franchise. Sure, there were a couple screws up in it (Deadpool being the biggest) but overall it was good. I don't get the hate on Green Lantern. I really liked it. Regardless, Ive been saying since BEFORE Origins: Wolverine came out that RR would make an AWESOME Deadpool because I thought theyd have him be more like..... Deadpool. Like he was in Blade: Trinity. They screwed it up big time, but HOPEFULLY they'll do it right this time. If the movie is 2 hours of the leaked footage, Id be happy. Does it NEED an "R" rating, I think so. Will I be crushed if its PG-13? Probably not. Last edited by bigvig; 04-02-2015 at 09:46 AM.. |
