As flawed as Pickel's numbers may be, yours are as well. 100? You do realize that there is a HUGE market for military scale models? Just because there isn't interest in the thrifty niche Joe community doesn't mean there isn't a much larger market out there. As for his experience, take a look at my HO-229 build on this board. The dude has made dozens of kits like that, in his garage. I know manufacturing is a whole different kettle of fish, but I for one would like to see what he can do.

Sorry to be a naysayer, but the MTF and HACKS Kickstarters only had around 1200 backers total. The market for this, given the higher price of entry, your inexperience in manufacturing, and the impracticality of being able to display a 3' X 3' aircraft -- even for people who really want one, would ensure far fewer backers than 1200. FAR fewer. Personally, I'd put the over/under at 100.
I don't mean to be harsh, but this is just way, way too premature on your part. You haven't even talked to a factory and gotten an estimate. I have been making 1/18th customs for about 8 years now . I very rarely post here because I do not really do GI Joe . My customer base deals with scale projects from WW 1 up to present day. I have close to 50 creations ranging from simple add ons to advanced builds from German secret weapons to full scale kits armor cars and everything in between. I have been on a roller coaster with financial backing to produce a resin kit of the A-10 I had financial backing along with a pledge from aprx 40 collectors who were prepared to pay $500 per kit . BTW all of the said 40 collectors wanted to give me front money but alas my 3-D printer guy had to back out of the deal. Now I am working on another 3-D programmer who can come through with the goods and hopefully in a few months I will have a prototype. I am also knee deep in negotiations with a supplier / manufacturer who can and hopefully will produce the goods . So fear not I have done my homework and there are quite a few collectors out there who do want a scale A-10 who are not on this board or any other . Plus there are collectors in the military who would love to have one because they served , serviced or have been protected by them. There is a Naval base that the A-10 flew out of that I have talked to several guys who would love one or maybe 2 . I am really not trying to come across as harsh but I thought that you guys on Hisstank would be interested in things going on outside of this forum and would like to be included with new and scale military vehicles on the horizon. |

just like your 1 18th Hind, I'm very interested in a true 1 18th scale a-10, though being a Joe collector I'd probably mod it a bit and repaint it Cobra Blue to resemble the Rattler. Is the intent to be be fully painted/finished pieces or will there be an option for kits?

Pickelhaube,
those are fantastic. I love your work and hope you meet your goals for these projects. Even though I'm a Joe guy I'm big on aircraft history [your P-36 mod is awesome!]. If you can make this work, it only bodes well for us Joe fans. Even though unlike your clientel many of us Joe guys fret at the cost of $30 toys (as opposed to highly detailed, scale-accurate reproductions that go for upwards of $300), there is hope we can push our own designs, eventually...

I remember many years ago when a lot of us true scale 1:18 collectors would gradly throw down $250 for the A-10. I would say that even today, $200 to $300 is a reasonable price for this.
