Shout! Factory Gauging Interest In Bringing Over Japanese Transformers Series To DVD - Transformers News Excuse me for having not followed Transformers in animated form since the 80's (except for both films), but which animated series? I remember seeing a tidbit of a series on Cartoon Network that was shown after hours (adult swim). |

In Japan Powermaster Prime was a different character called Ginrai and combined not only with his trailer(which was then Super Ginrai), but also a drone named God Bomber(and the ultimate form was God Ginrai). |

These series are from Generation 1 primarily, the series that took place after the US series but weren't aired here. Masterforce, Victory, and Headmasters. Anyone remember Powermaster Prime? In Japan, the body was meant for Prime, but ended up being given to a Powermaster. Powermasters were humans who were in robot suits, and could plug into the body of the Transformer to transform them. For example on the toy, the Powermaster folds up and plugs into the engine block of the cab, and enables Prime to transform.

I'd pick up Masterforce and Victory. Unfortunately Headmasters (which happens right after the US series) is just bad storytelling. Character's names and attitudes are completely different (IE Blaster is called Billy, Wheelie doesn't rhyme, but is a pissed off teenager) Also the matrix is now a power pack and there's apparently many of them throughout the universe (I could be wrong on this one, it has been close to 10 years since I last saw this)

I'd be interested. Those series were a continuation of G1 and some of it isnt as goofy as the last few series that were broadcast. TF: Animated was actually more serious than CarRobots, etc.
I've only seen a bit of these unreleased series on bootlegs or Youtube. For those unfamiliar, there is a vicious fight between Blaster and Soundwave where they basically kill each other and are rebuilt into their Japanese exclusive repaints. Plus, Breast Force. |
