Agree with much of Shin.
The music and the love story was integral to the story. It hasn't been discussed much. And the focus has always been the which Robotech storyline. Hollywood just doesn't get it. Macross is a space opera/mech show/love triangle/and pop video. Imagine the casting? Carlie Rae Jepsen as Minmei? Who should write the music? Remember its a love song used as weapon. Love stories are ridicously tough in a SF setting. Look at the awful Anakin/Padme. And this is a love triangle. Japan should just do it! |

I know Kawamori left Hikaru/Misa/Minmay's fates open but I would prefer if he at least brought closure to Alto's from the 2nd Macross F movie. Or maybe he'll just pull a DYRL? and just say that the Macross F movies are movies within a series made years after Macross F and that the Macross F TV series is canon. Quote:

IIRC, Shadow Chronicles was inspired by Tommy Yune/Steve Yun. If that's the best they can do... |

As far as canon goes, from the tidbits I've gleaned, Kawamori has taken the "Star Trek Reboot" mentality and declared that both the movies and series are canon...two different realities, in other words, with neither taking precedence over the other. |
