I think you have a good list of decent remakes there, but I gotta disagree with you on- The House On Haunted Hill, Bloody Valentine, and Tool Box Murders, I hated those 3.
Oh, and I never saw the Last House on the Left Remake. John Carpenter's The Thing is my favorite movie of all time. |

Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, JC's The Thing, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, The Hitcher and Friday The 13th are my favorite remakes. RZ's Halloween was allright but I've read enough spoilers for his version of H2 that I have no plans on ever seeing it.

The Thing...... Huge improvement.
The Fly......... Didn't like it, but it was better than the O.G. The Blob..... Scared the sh*t out of me as a kid. Dawn of the Dead..... Garbage. Invasion of the Body Snatchers..... They remade that? Night of the Living Dead...... 90? Eh, but then again I'm not a zombie fan. Cat People..... Wha? House on Haunted Hill..... Butchered a classic. The Hills Have Eyes..... And made me want to stab mine out. The Ring...... Crap. King Kong..... It's been remade a billion times. They all suck. The Last House on The Left.... Crap. The Toolbox Murders.... Never seen it. 2001 Maniacs..... Didn't watch it. The Wizard of Gore.... Never seen it. My Bloody Valentine 3D..... Didn't see it, but it looks like it sucks. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre..... Chainsaw didn't need to be rebooted. Halloween.... Horrible remakes. Friday The 13th.... God awful. Psycho.... Vince Vaughn is funny even when he's not trying to be. The Fog... I liked the O.G. a lot better. The Wicker Man..... Didn't bother watch it. King Kong 1976.... See above. One Missed Call.... Didn't watch it, yet I feel like I've seen it and hated it. |

I though House on Haunted Hill was pretty decent, but am not a fan of too many of the others on your list.

Maybe I just didn't get the original House on Haunted Hill because I thought it was short, boring and had no point whatsoever (Admittiedly it has been 6 years or more since I've seen it so I may be forgetting some points) but the movie seemed to just center around some rich guy inviting a bunch of people up to his scary house and then scaring them (or did he kill one? I forget) with a life sized skeleton puppet......what!? At least with the remake you get a dynamic between the husban and wife and sure there's some odd hokey "smoke-ghost" that inhabits the house but to me at least, it was miles better than the original
Same goes for Dawn of the Dead. I know it's a classic and blasphemy to say anything negative about it, but the coolest part about the original was the zombie's head explosion at the beginning, then it got all boring and talky with a few highlighjts here and there. I also know that there are people who will say "But it's a social commentary on the starte of the world and consumerism in the 70's" Let me put it bluntly...I Don't Care. It's a zombie movie, it's supposed to be about scary creatures coming to eat you, I don't want some social commentary to tell me that shoppers are brain dead or that I have a mortal fear what happens after I die. I just want a entertaining movie, which the remake finally gave me I also really liked: The Thing (The original holds emotional value to me because I remember watching it with my dad when I was a very small child) Night of the Living Dead (I like both the original and the remake of this one, but the remake just barely edges out the original) |

I'm a huge Friday the 13th fan. I know that this is about all remakes, but I'm going to sound off about this one. First, it was a great Jason movie, and it was fantastic to have a living Jason for the first time since The Final Chapter in '84. It was not by any stretch, however, a flawless installment. Problems:
1- A straight remake of Friday the 13th would have been much better. You hire an actress like Nana Visitor and give her five minutes screen time? What about the shock of discovering these horrible acts were commited by a vengeful mother? A whole generation has missed that now. 2- The Soundtrack. The original score sounds like a Jason knock-off from the '80's. The Harry Manfredini score from the original films is much better. 3- Jason's outfit. He looks like Trailer Trash, not Jason. 4- The mansion cabin at Crystal Lake. Serously? Why would rich people build on Crystal Lake instead of... well... anywhere else on Earth. 5- Jason kidnaps Whitney. Yeah, if this were true to his character, he'd have chopped off her head and put it next to his mother's. 6- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre style old lady that tells the guy his sister is dead. Just a waste of time in the movie. 7- Jason guarding a pot field. See number 6. 8- The way it ended. Disappointing. All of this said, I liked it. It just could have been so much better. |

I liked the Day of the Dead remake.
You can start laughing........................ .......... .............. ....................Now. I really enjoyed it, though. 1000 times better than the first one. |
