I'd love to find the ones I watched as a kid in the 70's and 80's on DVD someday. I got to see them as re-runs after I moved to the States (Teagan....yummy) but havent seen them since. David Tenant was the first incarnation of the doctor I had seen since Peter Davidson, believe it or not.

Freema gets hotter every time I see her. I think Matt Smith is off to a good start.

I have to admit that the BBCAmerica marathon got me re-interested in Doctor Who. As a kid I used to watch it occassionally on PBS and I was lost. I got the general idea but given my age and not watching it regularly I never really knew who was who (no pun intended). Well flashforward and after watching some of the marathon and the 2 part End of Time, my interest in the character is back. I am looking forward to the Matt Smith launch .. and kinda pissed that trying to get any of the back seasons is so expensive!

I was honestly very dissapointed with pt 2. Master's plan was as awesome as it was insane. I imagine on a cloud somewhere in heaven Delgado was laughing his ass off and applauding.
By comparison, however, it was the first time I didn't care for Tennet as the Doctor. If you look at it from the point of view of Davies saying goodbye to Tennet, and Tennet in turn saying goodbye to the rest of the cast, it was a meaningful departure. If you look at it from the point of view of The Doctor regenterating, it makes Tennet's Doctor look like a whiny bitch not wanting to let go when his time had come, compared to the stoicism nearly every other incarnation had faced their end with. And why did his regenration blow up the Tardis? I don't remember Eccleson's being any more than a light show. Russel T. Davies is a guy that, when he's on his game, he's really on his game. When he's not though, his Deus Ex Machina endings fall completely flat and it turns into pure narm. Of course your milage may vary. Looking forward to what Matt (still not a ginger) Smith does. |

I give Davies his due for bringing Doctor Who back to TV. I don't want to take that away from him. But I feel like he's lost sight of what makes the character and the universe he inhabits interesting. Far too many of Davies' stories take place on Earth in the present. Not a good thing when you have a character who, by his very nature, is a space and time traveler. It's such a waste. I'm not saying every episode must take place on a far off planet or in the past or future. I realize that, sometimes for cost reasons alone, it makes sense to stick close to home. But in too many cases, Davies has treated the Doctor as almost a secondary character on his own show, sidelining him in favor of something like Donna's family drama. I'm glad Davies is gone.

But yeah, after five years of Davies I'm looking forward to what happens under Moffet's direction. His stories aren't as epic, but they're often ingeniusly clever and disturbing, and aren't weighed down by past events (you really can't watch a good Davies ep without watching at least three others that help set it up). If I were to show a newcomer any episode to get them roped into the new Doctor Who, it'd be Blink. It's up there with Buffy's Hush as one of the best eps of any genre series ever made. |

I don't know about that, some of Pertwee's best adventures were in his "stranded on Earth" phase, so obviously it can work.

When is the new season going to be on tv and what channel? I hope the next doctor is good as the last one. I just got these two books in the mail and they are very good.

It is supposed to air in England around Easter, not sure when it will hit the states, but it will be on BBC America when it does.

the Beeb website has some new wallpapers up of Doctor 11 and new companion Amy. I think that Matt Smith looks very Doctor-ish in them, and I am excited for Easter.
