Johnson got Luke all wrong. They had the perfect opportunity to say good by to Leia/Carrie and she just suddenly force pulls herself back to the bridge after no mention of her doing any force training in any of the cannon since RotJ. Johnson ignoring the Rey's parents plot, and saying they were nobody. Thank God JJ is back for Ep. IX! |

Johnson ignoring the Rey's parents plot, and saying they were nobody. Thank God JJ is back for Ep. IX! There was no reason to say good-bye to Leia at the beginning of this movie as she was planned to be in Episode 9. You would've wanted Leia to die there and leave Carrie's entire performance in this movie after that on the cutting room floor? That's not the talk of a fan. There doesn't need to be any "talk" of Force training for Leia. We can easily assume she participated in some training with Luke between ROTJ and TFA. We have also seen Luke use Force powers he didn't train for previously when he was faced with a life or death situation. See ESB, both when he Force pulls his lightsaber in the ice cave and when he telepathically communicates with Leia from underneath Cloud City. Human beings are able to become more powerful than normal in life-or-death situations due to adrenaline, so it tracks with real life. Thank God Rian ignored as many of J.J.'s cliched, asinine ideas as he could. There is absolutely no reason for Rey to be related to any other characters that we know already except for someone to have a massive fanboy wank. Jar Jar Abrahams is infamous for that kind of unoriginal, overly self-referential style of writing and it's mind-numbing as heck. The very idea that Luke's lightsaber from ESB shows up in TFA is simply absurd and unnecessary. And to think he was almost going to start off the movie with the lightsaber floating in space, an utterly pathetic, terrible idea. Star Wars already went down the well of characters being unexpectedly related to each other twice in the OT, with the Luke/Leia connection already stretching credulity and being a massive compromise they never planned for just so Lucas could cancel episodes 7, 8 and 9 for several decades. Doing ANY more of that kind of thing would just be laughable at this point. I wanted to stand up and applaud when Rian indicated that Rey's parents are nobody. That is EXACTLY how it should be. He left plenty of room for Jar Jar Abrahams to change that though, which I'm sure that horrible director who is the modern heir to Ed Wood will. Last edited by JediJones; 04-24-2018 at 04:14 PM.. |

Johnson got Luke exactly right as someone who is tempted by the dark side but always makes the right choice in the end, just as Luke did when he chopped off Vader's hand in ROTJ but stopped short of killing him. Did you not notice that Luke told Rey he decided not to kill Kylo Ren before Kylo woke up and saw him? Luke went out a hero, sacrificing himself to save the Rebellion. Han went out as an embarrassing failure in TFA as a loser with no character advancement or personal achievement at all.
