Reminded me of Mr and Mrs Smith with more comedy. I enjoyed it.

Dunkirk.
It felt more like a history lesson than a full-fledged movie. It takes you into the middle of a very unglamorous side of war, being a sitting duck on the battlefield, in a very convincing and visceral way. But there seemed to be a conscious decision to avoid creating any kind of traditional movie character development. While there was a meager sense of character, there was almost no development of any kind of character relationships. This is Titanic if you cut Jack and Rose completely out of the movie and showed the rest of it as is. Some people thought that version of Titanic would've been a good idea. I disagree. Movies need characters to give you an emotional entry point into the movie. There is a difference between watching people die and caring if they die. I saw it in IMAX 70MM, one of the only 30 or so theaters showing it that way in the country, the place was packed wall to wall and there was no applause at the end. There usually is for an opening night movie with even smaller crowds than this. Overall I enjoyed Nolan's Interstellar more. That is a movie about people. This is a movie about an event. |

I re-watched Predator for the ninth or tenth time. It's like the most GI Joe movie ever.

I thought MEN OF WAR (Dolph Lundgren movie) was one of the most GI JOE movies ever.
