Suicide Squad and it was a disappointing mess. Apparently the studio overreacted to the critics on BVS and instead of making a slow, thoughtful, well-developed story, they forced it to be re-edited into a 2-hour music video with rapid-fire cutting and little to no coherence or development of any kind. Rick Flag got way too much screentime for being the worst actor and worst written character in the group.

Suicide Squad, last night. Hated Leto as the Joker. Other than that I enjoyed it. Couldnt help but think they whole Digger liking unicorns was a straight Deadpool rip off, and they incorporated Karin Grace into June Moon's back story for plot reasons.

Suicide Squad. Really enjoyed it. Harley was well portrayed, fun crazy. Joker was freaky psycho and fun. Felt more like Mark Hamill's portrayal from the 90's animated show but with some modern updates with the tatoos and teeth. Both had some really great nods to their respective portrayals in the comics, cartoons, games and graphic novels. Amanda Waller was an excellent bad ass. Dead Shot was Will Smith in costume, not bad but not really Dead Shot. Killer Croc was odd, great big head, little body. Looked imposing as long as he kept his hoodie on. Captain Boomerang and Katana were spot on and Diablo was a nice surprise. Rick Flag was meh and Enchantress went from cool to meh. Plot was typical comic book tripe but the movie was more focused on the characters, where they came from, how they interact with one another. Felt more like a comic book than a movie. Fun to devour without having to over think it.

Batman v Superman Ultimate edition. I liked the theatrical version when it came out but felt it was a little disjointed. This version seemed to flow better, fleshing out the story more and it didn't feel like it was 30min longer either. To me it felt more like a graphic novel than a movie and I enjoyed it more after a second viewing
The monumental task that this movie tries to achieve is incredibly daunting. Tying the DC universe together and laying the foundation of what will become the Justice League as well as tying the the history of these characters to the new visions that DC is trying to establish with the New 52 canon. The biggest character mish mash from historic character to new being Lex Luthor by tying him back to his original mad scientist character with minor aspects of the business tycoon, but leaving out the political ambitions for perhaps a future movie. This movie brings in aspects of so many comics, graphic noves, animated movies, cartoons and live action movies that its almost mind boggling. The main story seems to be a mixture of the graphic novels The Dark Knight Returns, Superman For Tomorrow, and the new 52 Justice League, as well as the comic the death of Superman and the animated movie Superman Doomsday. For the casual fan this movie will seem confusing and convoluted. For the critics it will be the same hatred they felt when the comics were released from the 40's-90's. For the more ravenous fan this movie opens the DC world to spring board many origin movies, team ups, tie ins and ultimate show downs. The first tie in being Suicide Squad and the most obvious future movies being the Justice League and Darkseid as well as the origins of Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman and Flash. DC are playing catch up with Marvel and cramming as much as they can in order to catch up is not helping DC. They are expecting you to know your history. Not a bad movie but not casual observer friendly either. |

Marvel knows what they want their movies to be. dC wants their movies to be like marvel, except darker.....l unless you guys don't like that then they're totally cool with reshoots and tonal changes. The entire DC universe has been reactions to their previous movies. Man of Steel had no regard for human life? Let's change that in the next movie. BvS is too dark? Quick let's fix that in SS. Studio panic is not a way to build a movie franchise. I'm interested to see how well SS does in the box office. Sure DC will make their money back selling Harley Quinn and Joker memorabilia at hot topic to troubled teens, but for the studio hopes and investments it looks like another underperformer from a studio that really needs a hit.
