Batman Returns
buoyed by the success in 89 they let Burton do his own thing here.....man it is gothic looking.......still though I find it very enjoyable. love the scene where Bruce and Selina figure things out as they are dancing. |

I loved the first Batman film when it first came out. It's the first "event" movie that I remember. It's still a ton of fun to watch today, and the blu ray is amazing. But I really can see it as being more of an update of the campy tv series than of the comics now. Thankfully, it was played pretty straight and the look of it is still amazing.
Batman Returns though, has really lost me over the years, to the point that it's pretty much unwatchable now. That scene you mentioned where they are dancing and inadvertantly reveal their alter egos is the lone high-point in the movie to me. There was too much Penguin and Catwoman, and not enough Batman/Bruce Wayne. I can't fault Max Schreck though because Christopher Walken is the man. Though he was in it too much too really. |

I often wonder how things would have went had Annette Bening not broke her ankle and been Catwoman?I bet we would have looked at her much differently.supposedly the character was changed up for MP. so my last was Batman Forever.as a 15 year old I LOVED this.......but now it grates on me.Carreys Riddler remains a highlight for me and Chase Meridian was good but if Hingle and Gough weren't in this as Gordon & Alfred you would view it as a straight reboot.everything is SO different.Wayne Manor,The cave,Gotham....... although I hear the Directors Cut is MUCH better. |

Haha, I'm not brave enough to watch the Schumacher films again. It's pretty bad when not even Val Kilmer (in his prime...or really at the end of his prime. I think Schumacher ruined him) can't save a film. I loved the trailer for that film when it was first released, but when I actually saw it in the theater, I had to keep telling myself that I liked it when I really didn't.

Star Trek V
I earn continued derision for declaring it my favourite Trek movie, but I stand my ground. It's the closest in feel to the series that I love so much, and Starfleet seems less militaristic than the other, more popular movies.
