In anyone ever dismissed FRINGE as an "X-Files rip-off", they missed out on amazing television.

Doomsday
Apart from a bit of a sag when things turn 'medieval', this is a suprisingly enjoyable piece of trash. Sure it rips off 'Escape from New York', but it does so in a very knowing way (from the maps, music and even the heroine wearing an eyepatch some of the time!). And of course Rhona Mitra is the perfect combination of arse-kicking & hotness. Wish there'd been a sequel...

The Raid: Redemption - I bought this after seeing all the great reviews about it. I've learned my lesson now. It's horrible. Bad direction, a plotline long enough for maybe an hour at most. And worst of all, it got boring. Oh look, the guy is fighting five people in a hallway...again. I don't want to pick on the voice dubbing, but I will, because it's so friggin' awful. It's like they paid three guys off the street to dub everyone. I'm always let down when I watch these foreign movies. It used to be the John Woo stuff, then Jackie Chan, then "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", now this. The only good one I've ever seen is "Enter the Dragon".
On another note, I want to mention that Best Buy has their trade in deal going again, where you can trade in any dvd for $5 toward the purchase of any blu ray over $10. I know I was supposed to remind somebody of that but I can't remember who and I can't find it by searching. |
