Well coming across some movies I have not seen in a longtime last night and today, and all three are films I saw when I was younger, but have found that when I have not seen a film in a long time that my opinion may have changed (especially if I disliked the films first time around).
So I gave all three a shot today and last night... -Time Bandits I get that its an epic adventure of fantasy but I still find the film amazingly long, and not nearly as much fun as it seems like it should be. Although David Warner as Evil is a lot of fun. -Xanadu Ok...lets get it out of the way...its a Disco Skate Musical movie with lots of neon aura effects. That being said its actually not a terrible story (or at least not as bad as I remebered) that falls apart in the last half hour or so, but overall it runs like Gene Kelly (who is one of the stars) on acid. -The Goonies I'd like to warn everyone...I do not have the same love for this film that most children of the 80's have not sure why but never really like it when I first saw it. But I now see that its a rare fun family adventure flick...and I still don't care that much for it. I appreciate it for what it is, but over all I still don't much see why it has this epic following. I likely haven't seen Goonies for near 15 years...and will be ok if I don't see it for another 15. I don't hate it, I just don't love it enough for multiple watchings. Grease is the extent of Olivia Newton John's singing and acting is about all I can take on a good day. |

HA! I watched Goonies the other night on TV at a relatives house and HAD to come home and watch it on BluRay. It basically tells the story of my childhood. There were a LOT of boys in a tiny little neighborhood surrounded by 500+ acres of woods, swamps, ponds, streams, cliffs, etc., but there were 4 of us that were ALWAYS together exploring every last inch of that place. Thats where I grew up, and the Goonies is like watching my childhood. That and Stand By Me. I watch those 2 movies regularly on BluRay and I think they get better every time I watch them. Maybe thats because as I get older my childhood slips further from my memory.

Corruption, an utterly bonkers UK horror with Peter Cushing as a mad scientist having to murder nubile young vixens (of course)in order to restore the beauty of his disfigured wife...
Agree. It was fun movie and AJ was (as usual) amazing in it. They overdid the "bugger" lines a bit (oh how "british"!), but that was all I really hated...

Dredd.
I absolutely loved it.after 23 years of reading Dredd(since I was 9) I finally see his growling hardass done justice on the screen. its an exercise in brutality too.....it earns the 18s rating.enjoyed Thirlby as Anderson as well and Headey was an utterly loathsome bastard portraying Ma Ma.sure I have minor nitpicks but they are minor and totally not worth mentioning. delighted to hear they are talking a sequel too. |

Also, all of the elements seem to stem from more recent 'Judge Dredd' material. I really would like to a sequel based on "The Cursed Earth". If they went in that direction it could be an excellent, borderline horror film.
