Well coming across some movies I have not seen in a longtime last night and today, and all three are films I saw when I was younger, but have found that when I have not seen a film in a long time that my opinion may have changed (especially if I disliked the films first time around).
So I gave all three a shot today and last night... -Time Bandits I get that its an epic adventure of fantasy but I still find the film amazingly long, and not nearly as much fun as it seems like it should be. Although David Warner as Evil is a lot of fun. -Xanadu Ok...lets get it out of the way...its a Disco Skate Musical movie with lots of neon aura effects. That being said its actually not a terrible story (or at least not as bad as I remebered) that falls apart in the last half hour or so, but overall it runs like Gene Kelly (who is one of the stars) on acid. -The Goonies I'd like to warn everyone...I do not have the same love for this film that most children of the 80's have not sure why but never really like it when I first saw it. But I now see that its a rare fun family adventure flick...and I still don't care that much for it. I appreciate it for what it is, but over all I still don't much see why it has this epic following. I likely haven't seen Goonies for near 15 years...and will be ok if I don't see it for another 15. I don't hate it, I just don't love it enough for multiple watchings. |

Another movie that I consider a classic too is Stand by Me. A movie that I remember seeing as a kid as well, but I didn't really like it at all. When I was younger I disliked it mostly, because of the time period it was set in. Most of the time, I didn't want to see anything other than movies set in the 80's, 90's or in the future in a galaxy far away. I saw Stand by Me about 2 months back, and I now have a much better appreciation for it. It's a far better movie than the Goonies, but still a classic in my eyes just like the Goonies. |

I just watched Nick Cage in Knowing and, I saw the Goonies today too. I still like the Goonies today but not as much as I did when I was smaller, but I can say that about a lot of movies. Now with that being said, it will always be a classic to me, because of the way it made me feel as a child. A group of friends that get together and go treasure hunting. It's something my friends and I would do as kids. We’d go running around the block and go looking in places we shouldn't. We were hoping to find something cool, but most of the time we ended up not finding a damn thing, just getting ourselves sweaty and dirty. But it was fun and gave us something to do.
