Ip Man 2 - while I did like what was essentially a Chinese Cinderella Man, it wasn't as good as the first. Still, I love watching Donnie Yen kicking multitudes of ass!

Magnum Force is my favorite of them too. Always loved the "A man's got to know his limitations" line.

Battle Los Angeles on Blu-Ray - I didn't consider it anywhere near as bad as some people said it was.
I liked that it was entirely told from the perspective of the Marine unit - We learned facts as they did, and we never saw the 'big picture' clearly. It was also nice seeing the characters portrayed in a positive light; Likeable, decent people who cared for each other doing an amazing job regardless of their own safety. I suspect any film that even remotely suggests that the military (especially the U.S.) are actually well trained, competant and decent people automatically loses points with some critics whereas one that paints them as Arab-torturing monsters is lauded. I utterly despise the notion presented in 28 DAYS later suggesting that it'll be the upright, noble citizens who carry themselves through the crisis with dignity while the Army (British, in that instance) are the first to descend into barbarism and behave like animals. We only have to look at any riot to see how quickly ordinary, undisciplined people revert to savagary.

It introduced us to new Dirty Harry elements we never got in the 1st one 1. The new .44 Auto-Magnum that took out all the bad guys in the end, even though I am a fan of the .44 Revolver it was one sweet sidearm. They don't even make them anymore I think. 2. The famous catchphrase to all catchphrases besides "Feeling Lucky Well Do Ya Punk, and Man's Got To Know His Limitations." The infamous line of "GO AHEAD, MAKE MY DAY!!!" |
