The Karate/Kung-Fu Kid (depending on what part of the world you live in).
I was expecting it to be not bad, but it actually impressed me with how genuinely well-made it was, and how well it employed the exact same themes and character arch-types as the original, despite a complete change of setting, ethnicity, and martial art styles. An absolutely beautiful example of how to do a remake. |

Please list... I'm curious.
I mean, the storyline was wonderful. The acting, well it wasn't top-notch but better than alot of what I've seen recently. With exception to the faces in the masks, the CGI was absolutely amazing. I watch ALOT of movies. And am a pretty tough critic. So it takes alot to actually "WOW" me... Avatar did indeed WOW me. Too funny, Zefram... I grew up watching all kinds of movies. My family was a "Hollywood" family (mostly backstage stuff). My girl always compares me to those Muppets as I'm always quite critical of what I watch and while she loves it for the "fun factor", I'm always looking through the eyeglass of production, storyline, acting, and so forth.

Watched "It's Complicated" which was not great, but better than expected. Alec Baldwin was hilarious and should be in more comedies.
Started watching "Grace is Gone" last night. Terribly depressing movie about a husband who's wife is killed in combat and he doesn't know how to tell his daughters.

Saw two this weekend: Predators (really, really liked it. Solid in every way for what it was.) Winter's Bone (gritty missing person tale set in the Ozarks. I'd expect it'll earn some awards attention end of the year. Excellent movie.) |
