early reviews aren't very good so far. the most indicting comment that I've read, and I am paraphrasing, is that it replaces adventure and excitement with CGI and feels more like a George Lucas film than a Spielberg film.
that sounds like a Lucas film to me. I'll see it anyway, but I am sure it won't be very good. George Lucas is a hack. I'll take a Stephen Sommers movie any day over any of the Star Wars prequels, which were all Lucas.

I'm hearing a lot of bashing on the CGI elements used this in this flick. Man, if the haters are coming out for the use of the computer augmentation on this flick. The CGI bashing group is going to beat up on the upcoming live action GI Joe flick as well, because it will definitely have at least an equal amount of CGI in it as Indy 4 did. And Spielberg kept it to a minimum. So, just be prepared. Sommers loves him some CGI.

i liked the movie, but definately not as much as the classic ones...it is just way too out there...i know the others plots were based on supernatural stories, but aliens was a bit too much...
the part that drove me the most crazy...the skull, made of crystal, which is huge by the way, is carried around and held like it is made of tin foil...aren't these people actors?...can't they pretend like it weights what a huge skull made of crystal would weigh?... |

I saw it, I bought all the toys, I took my 6 year old to see it... Ugh... what a waste. I have to say your rating scale is pretty accurate. I'd drop Last Crusade down a bit. Raiders is definitely a 10, T/O Doom and Last Crusade both about a 7-8. Crystal Skull could have been so cool; a 6 seems right.

and, no, he has not had the most significant impact on film today. he may be a pioneer in sound and effects, but until the day that story and characters become irrelevant, effects will never be the most important aspect of a movie, and that is the only arena he has had an impact. I'm glad you are a loyal follower. when the space ship comes to pick you up, make sure your pockets are stuffed with quarters for the intergalactic vending machines and drink your punch like a good boy. Ok, I have to ask this because I keep seeing it everywhere.
What's the big deal with the Prarie Dogs? There was one scene at the begining for a few seconds and then it was over right? That scene was good because it had the nice tie-in with the Paramount logo. Was there more that I somehow missed or blocked out? Why all the Prarie Dog hatin? I do feel there was a bit more of a Lucas feel to it, but still I liked it To be honest, if they had gone with an ending that involved anything other than aliens or ancient Atlantians I woulda been pissed. Those are the theories involving the real crystal skulls that this movie was based on. It would be like doing Raiders but claiming the Ark contained aliens rather than the power of god |

Transformers on the other hand had superbly integrated cgi which looked 'hard' and 'real' and gave verisimilitude to the movie. CGI isn't inherently a 'bad' thing...
