Nice try but listening to an album that is only 15 years old doesn't make you an elder. I've been listening to rap for a long time and know a bit about it. Illmatic was good but I was saying when it comes to Nas I like his style better in songs like Ether. To me Nas suffers from the same thing as 50, Nelly and TI (to name a few). Great 1st albums and then the rest were garbage to me. Rappers who are unknown put out some amazing shizit because they have to be good to sell. Unfortunatly too many rappers nowadays take a crap in the booth and slap a label on it because it will sell simply because their name is on it.

Nope. I've heard it and didn't care for it. I'm not a Nas fan. He's just one of those rappers who can be great but at the same time can try so hard to make clever rhymes that he ends up not making much sense. Just listen to "They Shoot" to see what I'm talking about. I lost all respect for Nas when he and Jay Z were beefin and next thing you know they're huggin and going on tour together. To me that has sell out written all over it. Why would he get with Jay Z if it wasn't about money?

Whatever happens now, or recently, between now mainstream artists (Jay-Z), does not tarnish or taint the accomplishments of the past. Nas was, and probably will always be, considered one of rap's best lyricist/artist ever. Sorry, but I can no longer take you seriously. The major difference between listener's like you and me is I was there awaiting that album, from the sound of your response (I am assuming), it seems you might have heard it sometime later thus incapable to really truly feel the impact it had compared to it's peers at the time and the state of hiphop during that year. It's like that old saying, "you had to have been there". btw, just because you are not a fan, doesn't make an artist any less valid/ good. I'm not a big fan of Flo-Rida, matter of fact I think he's probably one of the worst rappers I have ever heard, but I'm sure people in Florida and teenagers all over the US think he's bananas. Anyone listen to Deltron 3030 with Del the funky homosapien?
Anyone here anything new from EL-P? Wu Tang? I heard many months ago that Wu was beefing internally. Is the Chamber Music LP any good? Still waiting for The Cure, a Deck LP produced all by RZA, and another Liquid Swords LP produced by RZA. Hey I can dream. Aside from Non Phix disbanding and Goretex not having a sophmore LP(Gore was my favorite member of NP), I was also bummed that Can Ox might not reunite. Cannibal Ox's Cold Vein is one of the best albums I have heard in years. Listening to Cage's Depart from Me now, not bad, production is pretty crazy, I prefer Hell's Winter so far, but that album is very hard to top. |
