tat, that FOREIGN EXCHANGE album brings back so many memories of the summer of '04. It is such smooth, soulful hiphop that everyone should listen to at least once. The Masta Ace joint "A Long Hot Summer" is a classic to me. Not a bad song on it, just like his 2001 indie release "Disposable Arts" which was an amazing concept album.
One of my favortie artist hail from the Bronx called the Juggaknots. They are an amzaing trio with probably one of inide rap's most criticaly acclaimed first release (1996) "Clear Blue Skies" EP on FONDLE'EM Records. I have the original vinyl release (super-mega rare) along with Siah & Yeshua DapoED's EP. If you check this link, I at one time had doubles of each release on that list. The MF DOOM stuff is real hard to get and I regret selling it all. I also suggest Cannibal Ox's "The Cold Vein" LP on DefJux. A success in it's own right. http://www.sandboxautomatic.com/fondle/index.html Last edited by Mr. Gone; 08-25-2009 at 06:40 AM.. |

Gone, I literally and I mean freaking literally said those exact same words to my buddy a few years ago about that album...how crazy! It's one of those ones that every couple months or so I just put it on in my car or in the house while I'm cleaning and just vibe to it! I do have to give that Masta Ace album a chance though cuz I never really have

[QUOTE=drunknmunky;976705]That's a joke right? Sorry but Commen is garbage in my book. He falls under the 'tries way to hard' category for me. Same with Jay Z, Fabalous, Nas and Kanye West (man I HATE Kanye). These guys all just try too hard to be clever and end up sounding retarded. Nas has had some good stuff in the past (Ether comes to mind) but lately has been garbage. Jay Z has always bothered me. He claims he doesn't write his songs down. Maybe if he did he would see how crappy his 'rhymes' were before he writes them. Anyone else notice how Jay Z looks just like Joe Camel? As soon as Kanye West makes a CD that isn't just remakes he might gain a tiny bit of credibility with real rap lovers. Seriously the guy steals EVERY beat he has, puts teddy bears all over his CD, dresses like Carlton from Fresh Prince and compares himself to Jesus? Give me a break. Kanye West is faker than Channing Tatum's acting.[/QUOTE}
nas and common are 2 of my favorite mc's of all time and though I dont really care for kanye lyrically, he did change the entire face of hiphop,him and parrell made tight jean,bright colors,nerd rap in general very popular,not that I like that kind of stuff but noone has made as big of an impact in hiphop like kanye since biggie,imo. |

what you cats really know?? Outkast was the only group aside from Goodie Mob that gave the South it's unique sound until all the ignorant screaming angry rap started coming out from my neck of the woods. For a while I was ashamed to say I grew up in GA..... for a while the South was hurting on the ryhme scene. Eveything sounded the EXACT same and Cash Money and No Limit dropping albums every week didn't help much..... |
