To be honest I'm tired of this trend of mindless action and explosion porn movies. I'm happy to see stories coming back that are trying to make a point. Or just have a clear message from start to finish. Like that movie the road. That movie looks intense.

Well looked like a fun film. The CGI looked really fake and very good all at the same time. Kinda odd that way. As for folks ranting about the film being message heavy tell me one film he's ever made that wasn't. Also how is that a problem? District 9 very message heavy and still good. When did thinking and sharing ideas become a spooky bad thing? Thanks for the post T. I'll be making a point to see this.

I agree with previous Tankers on this thread that the CGI doesn't look impressive. It reminds me of video game cut-scenes. I think we should remember that the film is meant to be seen in 3D, so maybe that will effect the final outcome of the viewing experience?
Otherwise the design of the Navi is underwhelming and the live action/CGI mix between humans and aliens looks unconvincing still. District 9 has much better integration. And at parts I almost expected the Navi to burst into song, they look like Disney characters. What does look great is that shot of all the flying vehicles. That looks badass. I don't have high hopes based on the teaser trailer, but I hope Cameron can make a great film. He was on a roll during the late 80s/early 90s with Aliens, The Abyss and Terminator 2. I'll wait and see.

Depends I know very little about this movie, but if it's another Go Green movie, i'm sick of that bologna. We used to be able to grow grapes in ENGLAND, we can't now. The world has been much warmer. It's a cyclical thing. I agree we shouldn't pollute and destroy what we have, but some of this is just a mind game. We aren't in any immediate danger, trees are going to kill us (mr. M Night I'm looking at you) Aliens are going to come and kill us so the planet can live (don't be so arrogant Keanu, it will take a little more than Suv's to kill the planet) and so on.

Revsears, it is a thoroughly Go-Green movie. Space marines invade planet Pandora to mine it for some manner of mineral. The planet lacks oxygen, so to mine it properly, they start transferring thought patterns into the bodies of the basic natives. Apparently, this violates ethics threaties, and the blue, unimaginative cat-people get a little ticked off. I don't mean that as an offense: part of that is great sci-fi, part of that is what I imagined back in the third grade. A furry convention, without all the naughty stuff, meets Dances with Wolves.
Now, I'm all about, as is the next person, the right for weird pterodactyls to masticate space marines. But when that stuff tells me it's going to revolutionize cinema... eh. Come up with better design crews before you plan to revolutionize cinema.

i too thought this was going to be about that little bald asian kid.
and from everything i've heard, it's going to be mind meltingly awesome. I dunno...after watching the trailer, i think it looks like a dumb fun action sci fi flick. I'll go see it, and i bet it'll be pretty. but man, Final Fantasy:The spirits within looked really pretty too. sidenote...this is also in 3D, so it's going to be debrah harry/anne Margret/Zooey Deschanel pretty. I'll go see it.

Ultimately the bottom line is will this movie receive my $10 at the local theater? More than likely. It looks good enough and im ok with a message (despite not being much of a fan of James Cameron). If i paid to see one of George Lucas' newer SW films then ill definitely be paying to see this.
It looks like one of the better sci fi offerings (visually speaking) in a long time . I was hoping this was The Last Airbender when i first heard about it months back. |
