Ridley Scott Attached to Direct 'Alien' Prequel
First I got to say I'm a big fan of Ridley Scott (and his brother), majority of my favorite films of all time are Scott films. He's the guy who got me interested in film and inspired me to want to make films of my own. I've read a lot of talk about the fate of the standalone Alien franchise for years, and I hope that this article isn't just blowing smoke. Fox has been on a roll pissing on their long running sci-fi franchises, if Scott actually signs on for this project it'll probably be the best thing they've done in years. Alien: Resurrection, Terminator 3, Terminator Salvation, AVP, and AVP: Requiem (although I admit the AVP flicks had their moments)..enough is enough Fox (and Hollywood in general)! quit dicking around and show the world why we're supposed to give a damn about movies. |

I love the Scott brothers. They both make awesome movies.
2 of my all time favorite movies are Ridley Scott movies: Legend and Blackhawk Down (and Gladiator is also up there). Spy Game, Man on Fire are awesome Tony Scott movies. Along with Antoine Fuqua (Replacement Killers, Tears of the Sun, Training Day), those are my 3 favorite directors. I had heard awhile ago that he was just producing and one of the brother's studio directors was going to direct the new Alien movie. Cool that Ridley is now involved, but I think it'll still probably end up being the protege that does it.

As far as I'm concerned, the ALIEN series began and ended with that first film. I consider ALIEN a self-contained masterpiece and all the sequels (regardless of their quality) have watered that original down.
Having said that... If Ridley Scott is involved in this film and it deals more with the 'derelict' and less with the tedious shenanigans of Weyland Yutani, I will definately be interested!

I enjoyed the AVP flicks
in their own right they were decent. I love Alien and Aliens! I have no love for Alien 3 or Resurrection. I hope the Scott bros. churn out a killer flick but I am not the biggest fan of Tony Scott. It seems all he does are remakes. Takes a great film and remakes it into a pile of crap. I know that he doesnt just do remakes but it just seems that way to me. The protege was supposed to firect, Carl Reinsch (sp.?) i believe, but Fox said to Ridley either you direct or it ain't happening. We dont want a first timer directing a film of this magnitude. So I think Fox has finally smartened up and realized they need to churn out some quality for one of their biggest franchises

Makes me wonder if any "good" directors want a shot at these sci-fi franchises. Once directors have a few blockbusters under their belts, they tend to shy away from this genre. What happened to James Cameron? After Terminator/Aliens/T2/Titanic he disappeared to do Avatar? Last edited by dawingster; 07-31-2009 at 09:23 AM.. |

heres the info
pretty much what I had said earlier about Fox not wanting Carl Rinsch (spelled it right this time) to direct. Ridley Scott will direct Alien prequel | Film | guardian.co.uk

I still think we'll end up seeing the protege direct it.

Alien and Aliens are the only two films that are worth being in my collection. All the rest are garbage.........in my opinion!
A great director would be nice but all they need is a Great Producer to keep this film on track......and please God dont give it to a director with Final cut status that does not respect the first two films. Last edited by Rocky; 07-31-2009 at 09:56 AM.. |

Sounds pretty cool, I'm a fan of the first film.

I only acknowledge Alien and Aliens in that continuity.
Ripley, Hicks and Newt made it back to Earth, Ripley sued Weyland-Yutani and got zillions, she and Hicks got married and adopted Newt, and they lived happily ever after. |
