I loved the movie - i did miss the original ending, and liked the book better but they did a good job nonetheless.
I cant wait to get the Directors cut - I noticed a few parts in the theatrical cut where it was obvious the scene had been cut short, for example when Rorschach and Night Owl are in the bar and Rorschach is about to question the dude,i noticed an over the shoulder shot of a knot head and Dan began to turn to look at him then it cut away!

I thought it was a good movie. I haven't read the graphic novel, so I can't compare the two. I thought it started a bit slow, but it ended strong. I was very surprised at what happened to Rorshach at the end tho.

Yeah, the ultimate edition will be the one that the writer, Alan Moore, will appreciate the most as it will be the most inline with his original creation.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. The movie is really good, but it depends on what you didn't like about the book. The theatrical version takes out all the Tales of the Black Freighter references. They couldn't do the entire GN verbatim. What they ended up with on screen is really cool IMO. I would recommend that you give the movie a chance. I'm not just saying that it's a good movie becuase it's about the Watchmen. I'm saying it's just a good movie.

Loved the graphic novel, liked the movie a lot. I too have bought the directors cut DVD (first DVD I've bought in about 6 months) and look forward to watching it this weekend after I watch my next purchase which will be Green Lantern: First Flight.

After watching "Under the Hood" though, we both agreed that if she had watched that prior to seeing the movie in theaters she would have enjoyed the movie much more. Last edited by Lantern_Lad; 07-28-2009 at 10:22 AM.. |

I'd never heard of the Watchmen until all the hype leading up to the film. A buddy lent me a copy of the GN, which I never found the time to read beyond the first couple pages.
Anyway, he came down this weekend and we rented it from Blockbuster. I'd have to say overall it was an okay movie. I liked Rorshach (sp?) pretty well and wish the movie would have centered more on him and less on the supergeeks in love and the naked god-man with the blue shlong (still recovering from too much exposure to that thing). That love triangle part played more like a soap opera than good drama for me. I think my real problem was that these guys had no familiarity to me at all and I didn't find any reason to care about their strange world where superheroes won the Vietnam War for the US and Nixon is president for life. And, save for Rorshach and the Comedian, these had to be the neardiest superheroes ever. I mean Owlman, Superfast Brainman and Dr. Manhattan were just beyond my tolerance for superhero geekhood. Sorry guys, not trying to bash, but Watchmen offered very little lasting significance for this casual observer. |

I figured, if you liked the comics, you'd like the movie. The movie would just be "allright" if you hadn't been exposed to the comics, methinks.
More worthless ramblings from me on the movie, here: Option 38.com - Comics - TV stuff: Watchmen the Movie

I liked rorshach but comedian was my fave. The only part i didnt like was when he tried to rape silk spectre in the flashback but i loved how towards the end like when he met silk spctre 2 he kinda showed his more human side...but i loved his just general disregard for everything. I need to get this movie so bad!!
