Wait, what just happened?
That is just blasphemy. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are the greatest two things that ever happened to music. Period. I wouldn't say that about Bob Dylan. I get how he rubs people the wrong way (he should have just written songs for Hendrix to do). I used to kind of dislike him. In a few minutes, though, I'm buying tickets to see him next Wednesday. The Beatles, though... Quote:
Ha! I thought I was the only one... if you're either a "Beatles man, or an Elvis man", i'll just turn the fucking radio off.
That being said, I'll also fully acknowledge what they've done for music. I'll even admit that their style was so varied over the course of their career that there's even a song or two I like at least a little, though no examples come to mind. I've always said there's at least one for everyone. Personally, I'd rather rock The Clash. they're the Beatles of punk rock in that respect. I REALLY hate the rolling Stones. Utter trash, in my book... (well, "Get Off of My Cloud" is cool, I guess.) Zeppelin was my first love musically, Physical Graffiti is one of the finest rock albums ever produced. It's a shame that they've been ruined for me by radio stations and jukeboxes. It's like turkey, or pizza; too much of a good thing. I do love the Stones as they have a dark side. Quote:
Dexter's ok, I only made it through season and lost interest. Those movies are bonafide 80's classics though, if you find the time, at l;east check out Lost Boys and Princess Bride.... "anybody want a peanut?" Good stuff man. The Harry Potter series is best read, though.

Beatles did a lot for mindless pop music. They are not rock, they are the first boy band. Top 40 trash.
I do love the Stones as they have a dark side. “Anybody want a peanut?!” is one of my favorite lines in Hollywood. I know the line is coming and it still makes me laugh every time. I’m a big fan of dialogue in film and Princess Bride has fantastically sharp dialogue. I hear you on the Yardbirds and the Kinks, and I'd be remiss in not mentioning The Who. I used to be one of those charged-up, G.B.H./Exploited type punk rocker guys, and two of those three bands were definitely pre-punk. The Stooges also deserve a shout out.

I'm a film buff, so most of these I've already seen. I work in an office full of women, so the three they razz me about never having seen before are The Princess Bride, The Lost Boys, and Pretty in Pink. I've also never seen any of the Harry Potter films (and have no plans to).

Agree on Zeppelin, THE greatest band ever. Zep inspired some truly great music, the Beatles inspired more crap.

Thought of another one last night. Rick and Morty. Keep hearing how I must watch that show.

I can do late period Beatles, after the drugs kicked in, but I will only listen to early Stones. I can see how someone could be turned off by them if all you’ve heard is their 70s and 80s garbage.. but the early Stones stuff is great. Agreed on The Who, The Kinks, and The Yardbirs, And I’d throw The Creation and the Small Faces in there as well.
As far a proto-punk... I love the Stooges, but I think the crown goes to the MC5 for that.

Also, Queen is the most overrated band ever, after the movie came out. Now every 13 year old is parading around their knowledge of Queen and how they have the “deepest” music ever and how they reshaped the entirety music itself. These same kids also worship Billie Eilish. |

Rick and Morty has some of the cringiest fans ever. The show is unwatchable because of how terrible the fandom around it is.
Also, Queen is the most overrated band ever, after the movie came out. Now every 13 year old is parading around their knowledge of Queen and how they have the “deepest” music ever and how they reshaped the entirety music itself. These same kids also worship Billie Eilish. the idea that consumption of a product is conducive to intellectual superiority is just laughable, and not having to see that mentality firsthand is a definite blessing. In fact, I had no idea that was even a thing until one of the Youtubers I watch mentioned it a couple of months back- and Ive been watching almost as long as Rick and Morty have been a show at all. I can personally attest to the fact that I am just as stuipid now as I was before I started watching, and I actually DO get the jokes, so what does that say? As far as Queen is concerned, I hear you. It's happened to them all: Johnny Cash, Biggie, etc. All the sudden everyone's a super fan, and has to fill me in on all sorts of trivia about music I've listened to as long as I knew what music was. Well, fuck that, I decided they can't have Queen. No movie watching for me. No trivia or fun facts, no discussions about what Freddie Mercury had for dinner on the night of whatever date, whatever time. Queen has always been on my top 20 OAT list, because they were phenomenal on every level. And I personally get that love from the REAL Queen movies: Flash Gordon and of course, The Highlander. I won't let them take that away. Over rated? No man. Listen to anything else from that period for a side by side, there is nothing else like it. Over played? they're trying, but I'll beat the bastards.

I only recently saw the first 3 Rocky movies last week. I don't really have any reason why I never saw they before, just never got around to it.

I haven't seen Avengers Endgame yet. Don't know if I can sit that long for it knowing that Capt. Marvel is In it. I just don't want to see her.
