The LOTR series
The Harry Potter series (Except the third one...he changed too much visually and that irritated me.) Twilight (Which was actually better than the book...) The Seeker: The Dark is Rising (Which is for obvious reasons...)

Breakfast At Tiffanys, The Harry Potters, and LOTR
and cheers to who ever said Gone With The Wind though quite abit of my favorite books that they turned into TV Shows or Movies, they completely screwed with a capital S. I read the entire T*witch series. and Disney made the movies, (two movies, theres ten books) made it all rainbows and bubbles and completely screwed it up. Eww. and the second movie was completely not based on any of the books, and they brought back more people from the dead than a daytime soap opera wanting a revamp

I know the worst was " I am Legend" it destroys my favorite book ( Omega man and last man on earth were better). What made the movie bad was the stupid CGI monsters. Ridley Scott started work on this film in the 90's and it would have been much better!!!!!!!!!!!

The Godfather will always be the best.
Though I do love Silence of the Lambs. |

Gotta go with the LOTR trilogy for second-best. Even though at lot was changed it was done, imo, for the sake of the medium of film, in order to effectively tell the same story while still creating a great movie, as opposed to, say, the recent TF movie and GI Joe, in which changes were made for change's sake. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not a "hater" of either movie, but I do believe that to be the case.) Harry Potter films were pretty well done too. Zephram's list was pretty good, I would think, although I'm embarassed to say that I haven't read the source material for any of them, save To Kill a Mockingbird (and I do recall the film being good as well, but that was a long time ago), Jaws (also both good), Sin City and the Godfather. I'm reading Frankenstein right now but I'm finding it hard to get into. I'm not counting comics because they are as much visual as written medium. Easier to translate into screen. ;)

Kubrick's The Shining.
After I read the book, I could totally see why the film deviated so much and, IMO, for the better. Supernatural crap just isn't all that interesting to me if you're too upfront about it. |

The Monster: I do know that for the sympathy of one living being, I would make peace with all. I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other. Also put John Carpenter's "The Thing" up there. It was much closer to the original short-story "Is Anybody Out There" than the old B&W version (though I have great love for that movie as well, and it remains one of my favorites from that era). It's also one of Carpenter's best work and a horror classic. |
