Agreed. Her writing is terrific, plot and character development are impeccable, and comedic timing is spot on. Plus her philanthropic work is world renown.

Not many can do that... And that's just her writing... C'mon Headman, tell us why she's a moron... I really am curious. And please don't let it be due to the revelation of Dumbledore's 'preferences'... |

Exactly! Her writing is fantastic. The way she was able to create such an intricate tapestry of stories that shifted & evolved was amazing. Almost everything in the books down to the smallest detail ends up being important in the long run.

And please don't let it be due to the revelation of Dumbledore's 'preferences'... Also, Harry Potter was the name from the kid in the 1986 film Troll. That doesn't mean anything, I just find it interesting. Last edited by Headman; 07-15-2009 at 03:54 PM.. |

But just in case you were unaware of the announcement that was made about the character after the books were finished. ***Possible spoiler alert*** Quote:
No, it has more to do with her lifting most of her stuff from the Worst Witch, not to mention I'm not as impressed with her writing as others are. Killing characters for "shock" value over and over again tends to lose it's affect. But retroactively turning a character gay after the series was completed for no other reason than to alienate a part of your audience whom you have a personal bias against isn't too smart either when you're trying to open a theme park. I'm not so sure I wanna go on Dumbledore's wild ride.
I do not know anything about 'The Worst Witch' so I cannot comment on that. As far as killing for 'shock' value... I didn't see it that way. I saw it as driving home the fact that this is a war. I was blown away by just how many died in the last book... but I didn't feel at any time that it was done for shock value. When I read the book, that detailed Dumbledore's childhood, I figured it out. Not many guys are that "close"... she didn't spell it out in words because she didn't feel it was necessary. She only revealed it because the director/screenwriter of the Order of the Phoenix wanted to give Dumbledore a female love interest and she said no. Then it was leaked and she announced it. If I had written a character a specific way, retained control over how that character was portrayed in a movie, and had the opportunity to stop someone from changing that character I'd do it too. And in this day & age, gay or straight, who cares? People are people. |

No spoilers from me...
But just in case you were unaware of the announcement that was made about the character after the books were finished. ***Possible spoiler alert*** I'm keeping in mind here that all of this is my opinion vs. yours, and neither of us will change the others... so it's just a lively discussion. This isn't a very heated subject for me, so I'm just kinda having fun with it. Last edited by Headman; 07-15-2009 at 04:12 PM.. |

There was more money to be made by keeping it a kids book. She reminds me of Vince Mcmahon taking a medium that was popular with kids and spicing it up with a few thousand penis jokes to try and make it more appealing to grown ups. What you're left with is something too adult for kids and too dumb for most adults. She could have been the next Walt Disney, but she got bored in her own sand box and decided to indulge herself a little too much for my taste.
