For some reason, people can't seem to grasp that everyone has their own opinions and no one is entirely right or wrong in those opinions. The simple truth is, everyone is full of shit and grasping for ways to validate their opinions, often couching them in flowery prose and grandiose exposition, when there's no need. Just state your opinion, or keep it to yourself, and move on. In the end, it's all just wasted energy anyway.

Carrie Poppins?
I have to laugh at people saying we never got to know anything about Snoke's background. Uh, kind of like Boba Fett? Or Tarkin? Or Jabba? Or The Emperor, pre-prequels? This whole idea that every character needs a complete backstory may come from some nerd school somewhere but it sure isn't what the OT established for expectations of a Star Wars movie. |

Snoke didnt bother me at all. The SW universe is vast. I liked that Kylo one upped him. I kinda wished Rey had joined Kylo after the fight.

Okay, I'm going to through my two cents in...
I thought this was better then The Force Awakens. However, that's not to say I liked it. Too many flaws to comment on But from the beginning bombs don't "fall" in space. My son and I where both like "Really?" There were some great visuals in this but it couldn't cover up the mistakes and/or terrible choices. I wasn't happy with the choices they made for Luke's character. I find Rey's mastery of the force just plain ridiculous as well. Luke and Anakin are considered the strongest Jedi but still had to take time to train and gain mastery of the force. But after a few days with Luke this girl can levitate multiple massive boulders and knows lightsaber forms... nah, I don't think so. Just not believable. Now, my realy problem with this movie is the over-the-top feminism pushed by this movie. Now, to be clear, I'm fine with strong female characters. I like them honestly. But strong women do not have to be accompanied by stupid men. Yet that is what this movie promoted. Every male in this movie, save the dreadnought commander in the beginning, was either and idiot or a failure and the women were like "He's a cute little dummy". I felt Like I was watching "Everybody loves Raymond" in Space. And now with Snoke dead, You have HUX and KYLO in charge of the first order. The Resistance already won... Seriously, it was not at all like a Nolan take on Star Wars. More like what it was, a Disney take on Star Wars which had the Marvel film feel of too many jokes in what should be serious situations. I'm all about a good laugh but there were too many jokes that took away from the seriousness of what was going on. Most of the resistance wiped out. I left this film very, very disappointed. My 19 year old son said he's done with this story line and won't watch ep. 9. We hope Hans movie is better. |

Movie was awful. Considering ROTJ has been my favorite movie since I can remember, its safe to say I'm a SW fan. This movie was the first SW movie I left the theater not liking. I hate the prequels but that was a hate that developed over time. This film has ruined countless characters and was filled with nonsense. SJWs have won... They've taken something so many hold dear and turned it on its ear. Way to go Rian Johnson, you suck. The plot holes, poorly written characters, and lackluster story and effects make this an atrocity of a film. I hope it does poorly enough to put an end to the Rian Johnson trilogy. I am sorry i don't need 3 movies where the women are the best and all men are incompetent.

Lots of people seem to have missed the end of the movie. Nothing incompetent or unheroic about what Luke Skywalker did in the end. And he's not female.
Also, Phasma got her rear end kicked. So, no, females don't do everything right in this movie. Also, Rey was absolutely not a Mary Sue in this movie like she was in TFA. The other characters in this movie talk back to her all the time. And her plan with Kylo fails. She also gets her butt kicked in battle and only survives because Kylo lets her. As for why she has powers without training, that was the fault of Abrams in the last movie. There is no explanation for it. Abrams never had an explanation for it either. There's no satisfactory explanation I can think of that fits with Star Wars canon at all. But, this movie did not have to answer Abrams' unanswered question. He has his chance to do that in the next part. That's a TFA problem, not a TLJ problem. She showed MUCH more advanced Force powers in TFA than in TLJ. Johnson clearly played that down. I'm starting to wonder if people are trying to deal with some cognitive dissonance here. They overpraised TFA because of being caught up in the hype. Over time they've realized it's not that good a movie deep down, but maybe weren't willing to admit it. And now all that buried rage is being unloaded on TLJ. This would be like when your significant other keeps doing things to disappoint or annoy you, but you just try to tolerate it to keep the relationship together. But the resentment builds and suddenly becomes too much, so the next time they do something relatively minor wrong, you blow up at them in a rage that they can't quite understand. TFA was the real disappointment. Those of us who admitted that a long time ago knew that this movie had a challenge to try and make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. So we're glad it improved on a bad opening act. But people who never admitted how disappointing TFA was to themselves are instead using this movie to unload all that buried disappointment on that really originated with TFA. Yoda never really taught Luke anything but to believe in himself and his power, all the rest was calisthenics, jogging and stepping on snakes.
Luke already sensed Rey had a handle on her powers, so he saw no need, nor did he really want to train her... he was done with the whole thing, but still had faith, that's why he smuggled the Jedi texts onto the Falcon. I didn't like when he Force died, but I didn't like Han getting killed either... just the progression of the story.
