The flick is disposable entertainment; a popcorn movie if there ever was one. Which is fine, if that's what you want to create and put out there for the world to enjoy in its moment of release. I would like more, however.
The Transformers has a rich 25 year history of characters, battles, and interactions. Virtually none of this is incorporated into this movie or its predecessor. Rather than getting nuanced interactions between millenia-old sentient robots, we merely get skin-deep development of the human characters. Why explore the history and hierarchy of the Autobots when we can have jokes about bodily functions and private parts? Classy. I don't take issue with disposable movies; ones you watch, enjoy for the couple hours you're there, and then just as easily forget. Escapist entertainment pandering to the lowest common denominator can be quite enjoyable. I just don't see a franchise as being of that ilk. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, the Indiana Jones and Star Wars movies made prior to 1990 all are incredibly fun movies that stand up to repeat viewings and are both character driven and special-effects laden. Maybe that's the difficulty here. It's easy to use the giant robots as set pieces and cannon fodder, while concentrating on the human characters if you don't know the history inside and out. Whereas if you really know the characters and history of the Transformers, one can see what fully realized and fleshed out characters already exist and can be pulled into a new, exciting story. Develop these characters and you'll also get the human perspective. The Transformers themselves are full of love, loyalty, hate, betrayal, hunger for power, empathy, anger, humor, doubt, etc. The viewer can recognize parts of him or herself in the characters and create that connection needed for a believable story if the "special effects" have the solid script and direction needed. Recognize this and one could possibly create a movie that people will enjoy watching again and again even thirty years in the future. Not one that's good for two hours and ultimately forgotten.

You claim to be unbiased when in fact you went into the theater expecting the film to be bad, because as you stated yourself "you were never much of a fan". I'm not saying that only hardcore fans are allowed to express their opinions, but I have issue with you passing of thier opinion as unbiased when in fact you clearly had expectations going into the theater.
If you'd actually read the review, you'd see that I was hopeful that the second movie would be better than the first one. The fact that I was "never much of a fan" of the toyline in the '80s does not mean that I "went into the theater expecting the film to be bad" last week. I don't know how a rational person can even draw that conclusion. This is something you manufactured in your mind. You misrepresented my statements to bolster your own, insupportable arguments. I await your apology. You don't need me to call your intelligence and sanity into question. You've done a fine job all by yourself.

Just noticed that BBTS is selling a Ramjet and Skywarp movie figure... Same basic body style as Starscream, of course. Now I understand that, like RoC, there will be a lot of figures produced that never appear in the film.
I'm just curious if these, or any of the other Seekers, apper in the movie? I don't remember hearing their names or seeing any Starscream clones running about. |

In the final battle sequence Soundwave sends in like 8-10 decepticons. Megatron, Starscream, and the Fallen were already there and so was Devastator. I know Ravage was there also.............I guess some of the faceless decepticons could be them. |

The only good thing that I can say about this movie is that it was more Transformers versus other Transformers rather than Transformers versus army guys.
Other than that, it's still filled with suck. No such thing as a "popcorn movie". A "popcorn movie" is no reason not to have a fair story. Someone stated that "money talks".......just because something sells doesn't mean it's good. McDonalds is the prime example of that.
