That sucks I liked the TF Animated cartoon too. Season 3 was pretty good. I wonder how long until they clearance the TFA toys.

Yes, I know. But the movie was made before the election, & the name dubbed in later. It would have been the same regardless, just a different name in the dub.

I don't think I insinuated that at all. I just described the audience's reaction, which differed sharply from my own, and predicted box office success. Your highly-defensive response to criticism of the movie does more to promote the idea "that anyone who may have liked it is emotionally and socially undeveloped" than anything I've written. Ultimately, your response says more about you than it does about what I wrote.
I find that highly unlikely. It's called a film review. It is, by definition, an opinion. It happens to be the correct one, but it is, nevertheless, an opinion. Are you personally offended any time you read a review you don't agree with? Because you could develop quite the persecution complex. Actually, no, it makes me more qualified to give an unbiased opinion, because I'm not looking at it with a fan's expectations or preconceived notions. And you know that. Your fixation on this non-issue is a flaccid attempt to discredit an opinion you find threatening. Incidently, I'm pretty sure the teenagers in the theatre weren't Transformers fans in the '80s, either. They seemed to enjoy the movie just fine. But I guess they're not qualified to judge the movie because they weren't fans 25 years ago? First of all, though you took offense to my post, I never personally insulted you, whereas you have chosen to insult my intelligence and make assertions regarding my state of mind. this is not only rude but also arrogant. If you read my previous posts in this thread, you will see that, although overall I found the movie entertaining, I did find quite a few faults with the film, it was by no means what it could have or should have been. There have been several Tankers on this thread that gave this film a failing grade, so why did I respond to your post? Was I threatened by your opinion, or maybe I have a complex as you so rudely suggested? Maybe everyone who disagrees with you is insane or lacks vision after all you opinion is the correct one right? The reason I take issue with your "review", is because, unlike these teenagers, who weren't even around in the 80's, and truly are unbiased, you grew up in the 80's and never cared for the franchise. You claim to be unbiased when in fact you went into the theater expecting the film to be bad, because as you stated yourself "you were never much of a fan". I'm not saying that only hardcore fans are allowed to express their opinions, but I have issue with you passing of thier opinion as unbiased when in fact you clearly had expectations going into the theater. I recently came across a thread in which Tankers were discussing which soda they like, coke, pepsi, mountain dew. I never liked soda, even as a kid. As an adult I learned about the adverse affects of soda. I could have posted a long dissertation regarding why people shouldn't drink soda, but I said to myself "QFTT". |

But anyway, you need to learn to read the post correctly. I happen to love Michael Bay films..... a matter of fact I did not even mention his name in my post. I don't know why you would assume something out of what I wrote? A matter of fact what I wrote was accurate.....lol....... in the movie the humans end up treating the Autobots the same as the Decepticons based on their race.... So my statement that a spoiler in the movie is that there are racist characters is 100% correct. Racist to the Robots. Further more, I can find a flaw in Transformers 2 without hating Michael Bay. |

SPOLIERS
My opinion on the movie is mixed, for the most part I enjoyed it, there were alot of cool things in the movie, however there were things I did not like. I will list everything below. Likes: Optimus Prime- As expected Optimus was awesome and I didn't expect him to be any other way. All the parts with Prime were great. Prime's lines and fight scenes were all the best parts of the movie. His upgrade was really badass. I loved it. Ironhide + other Autobots (except the twins)- although they did not appear as much as I would have wanted Prime's soldiers were all really cool, Ironhides "punk ass Decepticon" line was one of my favorite qoutes. Sideswipe and Arcee were both cool additions. Starscream and Soundwave- Both of them were great, Soundwave's G1 voice was perfect. I'm glad Frank Welker was picked to play him. The Starscream/Megatron parts were all really cool, just like they behaved to each other in the cartoon. Ravage was also pretty cool. The action, CGI, music score, etc.- All of the fights and battles were great, I would have included more of them instead of the comedy scenes and the college part with the robotic chick would have been replaced with Decepticons attacking the school to get to Sam. Prime jumping out of the plane was in debate for the coolest part of the movie. The other part would be Prime's upgrade and how he easily killed the Fallen because he surpassed him so much in power. Blackout getting his head ripped apart of cool, and there were alot of Decepticons which was what I wanted. Although it goes without saying, Megan Fox was hot and glad she was there. The music score was awesome too. Dislikes: Megatron/The Fallen- I hate how Megatron just bowed down to the new toy, the Fallen. Never has Megatron ever done this. In the old Transformers movie, Unicron had to torture Megatron/Galvatron to make him obey, and he still tried to undermine Unicron in the end. Since the Fallen served the same role as leader of the Decepticons, what was the point in bringing Megatron back, he should have stayed dead. the sexual humor- many of the sexual jokes ranged from annoying to disgusting. I may be the only person my age to think this way but I would have prefered a PG rating on this movie like Dragon Ball had over the kind of sexual humor here. pointless characters and scenes- Sam's roommate was a forced character who did not need to be there, the entire college parts should have been cut down or removed. The entire concept with the robot disguised as a chick should have been removed and replaced with the Cons just directly attacking the school. The use of humor in that scene has also annoying and the twins acting stupid ruined the Devastator battle. Giving Simmons a cameo was cool but he didn't need to go with them to the Pryamids. That CIA/Defense guy whatever the hell he was didn't need to have as many parts as he did. Wheelie- His first scene when he called Megan Fox hot but not too bright was really funny but he kept getting more annoying as the film went on. The Twins- The cool Autobots like Ironhide, Ratchet, Sideswipe, and Arcee did not get much sceen time which was given to the moronic twins instead, although Bumblebee bashing thier heads together was one of the funniest things in the movie. I didn't hate them but they could have appeared less or have been made less stupid. Overall I liked the movie, it was fun at parts and I will still be getting it when it is released on DVD just for the good parts. However if the sexual humor was cut out and the time wasting college parts, etc. were gone I would have enjoyed it alot more.

I will say I loved Ravage and Soundwave, and a few of the action scenes were great-especially the forest scene. Megan Fox is pretty to look at. Totorro (sp?) also really underplayed his role which was good.
That said I cannot forgive a steaming pile of a popcorn movie. This movie missed on everything that made the first TF movie charming, entertaining, and engaging. Yes, many summer blockbusters are eye candy and lack plot, but this film lacked any redeeming quality and I wanted to gouge my eyes out, and fill my ears with my leftover nacho cheese. The endless potty humor, numerous testicle jokes, social stereotype Autobots that made me cringe with every word, blatant cursing, and leg humping robots was alone enough to make me think this film was a blight on society. It also had plot holes, meaningless characters, visually confusing fight scenes, idiotic pot brownie gags, and is it really that hard to say "love" to a super hot woman--geez. I like Transformers and this film entertained many of my fan boy wants and desires, but honestly, to forgive this film as mindless entertainment is going too easy. A summer blockbuster can also have something more can't it? Does it have to be a bunch of explosions, cgi, and potty humor? This movie didn't have to be an indie film or an Oscar Nominee, I usually hate half of them, but my love of big giant robots and big action cannot make me forgive this waste of time and money.

The flick is disposable entertainment; a popcorn movie if there ever was one. Which is fine, if that's what you want to create and put out there for the world to enjoy in its moment of release. I would like more, however.
The Transformers has a rich 25 year history of characters, battles, and interactions. Virtually none of this is incorporated into this movie or its predecessor. Rather than getting nuanced interactions between millenia-old sentient robots, we merely get skin-deep development of the human characters. Why explore the history and hierarchy of the Autobots when we can have jokes about bodily functions and private parts? Classy. I don't take issue with disposable movies; ones you watch, enjoy for the couple hours you're there, and then just as easily forget. Escapist entertainment pandering to the lowest common denominator can be quite enjoyable. I just don't see a franchise as being of that ilk. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, the Indiana Jones and Star Wars movies made prior to 1990 all are incredibly fun movies that stand up to repeat viewings and are both character driven and special-effects laden. Maybe that's the difficulty here. It's easy to use the giant robots as set pieces and cannon fodder, while concentrating on the human characters if you don't know the history inside and out. Whereas if you really know the characters and history of the Transformers, one can see what fully realized and fleshed out characters already exist and can be pulled into a new, exciting story. Develop these characters and you'll also get the human perspective. The Transformers themselves are full of love, loyalty, hate, betrayal, hunger for power, empathy, anger, humor, doubt, etc. The viewer can recognize parts of him or herself in the characters and create that connection needed for a believable story if the "special effects" have the solid script and direction needed. Recognize this and one could possibly create a movie that people will enjoy watching again and again even thirty years in the future. Not one that's good for two hours and ultimately forgotten. Though I personally liked the film, you made some beautiful points regarding the rich history and mythos of Transformers. If the writers made more effort to develop the autobots and decepticons characters, they could easily stand alone without the need for telling the Human side of the story. However I will add one point, as long as the Transformers choose to wage their war on earth, humans are and should be a part of the story, it is "our world, their war". One thing I never liked about the old cartoons is that other than spike and family, all the humans were nameless ants running around screaming. Still, nice points you made.
