I was watching the He-Man episode. They were talking about how they had this darker, Frazetta-styled He-Man and then the cartoon made it goofy and lighthearted... And I was thinking, "Hmmm... That sounds familiar."
And if anyone is interested, check out 'Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films.' Cannon was the production company that made all those schlocky eighties B-action movies (American Ninja, The Delta Force, American Delta Ninja Force, etc). They were kind of the 'Asylum' of their day. By the end, they were actually making bigger budget (but still terrible) movies like 'Superman IV' and 'Masters of the Universe.' It's actually a rather interesting story and I liked the documentary. They actually ran out of money halfway through 'MOTU' and when the film failed it was the nail in the coffin. I watched the He-Man episode last night.
Wow major nostalgia. He-Man was my first love and It brought back some great memories. I can't wait to see a TMNT version. As a kid I played more with TMNT than even Joes.

Very entertaining. The only missed moment for me was in the He-Man story, jumping from 200X He-man straight to Super7 putting out MOTUC- The big revival and new sculpted figures by the 4 Horsemen and the Collectors Club wasn't touched at all. Probably just a time issue- so much cool stuff to cram in a short amount of time.

I was never into He-Man, but that was a cool episode.
What blew my mind in the StarWars episode was that the entire legacy of any and all 4inch figure was decided by a guy just holding out his fingers and saying.. "make them about this size"... |

The show is excellent and I'm looking forward to the next four episodes in 2018. From what I read, they will be about Lego, Hello Kitty, Transformers and Star Trek. If they get a second season, they mentioned TMNT, Superheroes and McDonald's Happy Meals.
These figures are 2-ups (I think that is the name they use). In the '80s they used to sculpt figures twice the size. These were used as painting guides for production. Several people here know a lot more about this than me and could go into more detail about the process. OB Does anyone know if these 6 inch 2-ups have ever hit the secondary market? I am curious to know what they have gone for. I wouldn't mind having just 1 in my collection.

Anybody else notice when they were interviewing Derryl Di Priest he had 6 inch vintage figures? The set that had croc master
When they put the 12 inch next to them you could clearly see they were about half the size. Also another scene shows moc figures that clearly show the 3.75 inch size normal size and his 6inch figures in front of him. Anybody ever heard of or seen these 6 inch vintage mold figures?

We may or may not be in a fractal of the Reagan era, he also had a rough first year and then 80s Americana came into full force. If this is the case, look forward to an apple pie infused Joe brand revival coming soon.
I wouldn't mind a 6 inch Joe line with a Dollar General-ish 3.75 inch line on shelves. Anything less than the Dollar General figs would be a big fail though. Having 2-3 accessories/figure is probably the magic ratio. As a new Joe buyer, I have a a few 50th figs that I am loathe to unbox as I do not want to lose the bits. I don't really know what to do with them. Sturdier joints (even if slightly unsightly-just have lots of pads) would also be welcome on such a kid friendly line. |
