This sucks. I got to film for 7 days on Dark Knight and got to meet him and filmed several scenes with him. He was pretty cool.
I thought this was a misprint too when I first seen it on yahoo but then I got a text from one of the production people I met, then a few emails so.... Supposedly he did finish all his filming and even did alot of the promo shots and stuff. This is the 2nd death on this film. SPOILER****** From what I heard when I was on set filming, he was supposed to be a part of the 3rd movie too. |

Yeah, he was gonna show up in Batman 3 too.
Now I dunno what Nolan's gonna do about that. Perhaps have the Joker as a character "in the shadows" for part 3. Or just have us hear his laugh in Arkham asylum. First thing I thought when I heard the news: "this has got to be a joke!" (no pun intended). With so much viral marketing going on for The Dark Knight, it just didn't sit as real. I'm sure WB must be happy though... many will see the film just because of Ledger's death. Sad but true. R.I.P. oh and lets not jump into conclusions just yet. We still don't know the real cause of death. Let's wait for the official report.

Looks like he DID shoot all of his scenes for The Dark Knight, but there was still some looping to be done.
They may have to give Mark Hamill a call.

My phone has been ringing off the hook since the news broke. All my friends know how much I liked him, and how happy I was when he was cast as my favorite comic book character.
He's always been a bit on the weird side, but I've never heard anything about him abusing drugs or alcohol. He was a really private guy that wanted to express his talent, while still having a life of his own. One of the parts that really angers me over this is the involvment of prescription drugs. Over and over again we hear about people, both famous and not, OD'ing on this crap. I'm not denying personal responsability in the use of prescription drugs, but the pharmacutical and insurance industry has no business releasing these drugs to a market where long term effects are unknown. It really seems to be as Bill Maher said; "we used to have long term studies on the medications prescribed to people, now we just give it to Courtney Love and if she's still alive in the morning, it's approved." If anything good could come out of this, it will be to draw attention to the fiasco of our prescription drug industry in America. |

I wasn't kidding though. I bet Mark Hamill could pull a good "Heath Ledger as the Joker" voice if needed.
I'm sure you know he voiced the Joker for the animated series

As for the the 3rd Batman, they will most likely recast the joker but they may possibly reduce his role. |

Update from AICN:
Hey folks, Harry here... There's a lot of rumors swirling around right now in regards to Heath and where his involvement with THE DARK KNIGHT was. I got it confirmed from a source involved in Post-Production on THE DARK KNIGHT. Heath's post work was complete. He had indeed finished it, as to not interfere with the production of the film he was doing with Gilliam. We're now working to find out what's going to happen there. The last known photo of Heath was as a clown in that film. Will Terry re-cast? What will happen? We'll try to find out for all of you. But there will be no-dubbing on Heath in THE DARK KNIGHT - his performance was finished. And boy... is Terry Gilliam cursed or what?
