Though to be truly honest? The only movie that scared me was when I was eight or so and my brother Carl put in Fright Night...not realizing that I was hiding behind the couch...I watch it now and chuckle but seriously I actually had trouble sleeping. Considering how campy said movie is I feel a bit...stupid looking back on it now. An honorable mention for good horror movies however? Phantasm 2 (is this out on DVD I mean seriously) really, it played out like a Stephen King novel...plus short little undead midgets? Totally awesome. |

to be honest, there hasn't been any real horror/scary movies in the last 20 years.alot of these so-called scary movies are rated pg-13 and to me are kinda boring.if i had to pick one that people may have heard of in the last 10 years that came close to scaring me i would go with turista(not sure of the spelling).will make you think twice about vacationing in south america and partying with the locals.

What strikes me is not the blood and guts asspect of modern horror films, 1970s and early 1980s Italian horror still blows away anything new on gore, but that new horror films are paced too fast, which does not allow for any feeling of horror to build. Things jumping out at you on a loud sound cue are good for a jump, but for that real feeling of dired and doom to build you need time. The original Halloween works becuse it builds suspence as we keep seeing peaks of Micheal Myers stalking the characters. People who complain about older horror films being slower paced should go back and read Poe or Lovecraft and see how the feeling of horror needs to keep building and building, so when the fright comes you can't take it any more.
