The reviews are in. Suicide squad seems to be another bad movie in the DC cinematic universe. Will they ever get it right.
I cancelled my tickets to the midnight showing. With BvS, I ignored the reviews and paid the price. It was the first movie in my recent memory where I walked out in the middle of a showing.

I don't take much stock in what the critics say. I did read several reviews out of curiosity and most seemed to dislike every other Super hero film just as much. I think there's a backlash against super heroes pushing the "art" out of cinema much the way they trashed the original Star Wars films and Jaws for killing Hollywood's golden era of the 70s.
Screw them. I can enjoy The Godfather and Buckaroo Banzai at the same time.

That's really unfortunate that you follow the critics like a sheep instead of trusting your own instincts.
The critics don't represent me in the slightest. They're driven by politics over art and they are as snobby as ever towards genre films. From what I'm hearing, the fact that the film glorifies an "abusive" relationship with Harley and Joker is a big part of the criticism. These are the same left-wing feminists who praised Ghostbusters-in-Name-Only even though everyone could tell it was crap from the trailers. These are also the same critics who liked Superman Returns even though it was godawful garbage that bastardized the character (literally). That's one of the few movies I almost got up and walked out on. I loved BVS, especially the Ultimate cut, and have watched the movie 3 times now and will do it soon again. The cinematography and music alone make BVS a fantastic viewing experience. But the deeper themes, social commentary and character development in it also make it far more interesting than the increasingly shallow, one-dimensional, Disney-fied Marvel efforts like Ant-Man. I'm going to believe my lyin' eyes and not the critics. Can't wait for 6 PM Thursday. |

I think you're probably a geek contrarian, and think going against the grain makes you somehow a more enlightened geek. Good thing our opinions are our own and only matter to us. |

Zack Snyder is good at making visually stunning turds. That's about it. B v S sucked. Won't waste a nickel on Suicide Squad or any of DC turd. They'll be rebooting again within 5 yrs.

Definitely not a contrarian. I'm incapable of having a dishonest reaction to a film. I've been pumped for Suicide Squad for a while now and expected the reviews to be good, because I'll never learn to stop underestimating how clueless the critics can be. I may not like it but I sure as heck am not going to change course on my plans to see it because of what the critics say, who are by and large people with very different worldviews and tastes than mine.
Even more than that, the way people misuse and misinterpret Rotten Tomatoes or other critic aggregators is mind-numbingly stupid. I know I can write off a person as an intellectual featherweight whenever they claim to "always agree" with Rotten Tomatoes. It's a number representing an average of 200 different people. All it's saying is that 1 out of 3 people in this group of critics liked the movie. It takes a little more introspection on anyone's part to decide if they're in the 1 out of 3 or the 2 out of 3. I can be sure that anyone who magically "always" finds themself agreeing with the majority lacks the capacity for any meaningful introspection. There probably isn't even a single critic on RT who always finds their rating the same as the majority opinion. I also happen to be totally in agreement with the widespread opinion that the BVS Ultimate Cut is an improvement. And I thought Finding Dory was a classic piece of animation, which is totally in line with RT. I also agreed with RT on MI: Rogue Nation, the best action film of last year. I don't hate most of the Marvel films...just Thor 2, Iron Man 3 and (dislike) Age of Ultron. But all the critics I see being aimed at DCEU go double or triple for all the flaws in Marvel films. Ant-Man had a ridiculously convoluted plot, moreso than people claim Luthor's in BVS was. HISHE killed it by showing how Michael Douglas could have ended the movie in 5 minutes if he acted logically. Then there's Zemo's incredibly convoluted plot, which he doesn't even have the resources to convincingly pull off. And other bizarre occurrences in Civil War like Cap breaking into an unbreakable prison with no explanation whatsoever. Yet people claim BVS was disjointed. It's also really boring to see Hulk get "mind-controlled" just to engage in a pointless action sequence with another good guy. It was far more interesting to see Bruce Wayne's psychological journey to get to the point where he was truly motivated to fight Supes. |

I could care less what a review says. That stated, I've got a feeling this movie will suck.

I would be happy to be proven wrong but unles there is a mass conspiracy, majority of reviews being bad generally means the movie is bad.

Embargoed reviews and reshoots are always a great sign for a big budget turd.
I'd like DC to get their act together. The Wonder Woman trailer looked passable. The stuff on TV is decent enough. But they need to dump Snyder.
