But we'll have to get some of his origin as an investigative journalist. I wonder if Seth Rogan could bulk up enough to do it....,

Emma Stone is a good choice in anything. Far sexier than Watson and far funnier than Faris.
The 1986 Howard the Duck movie was a giant piece of garbage...one I saw in the theater at the time. The villains were kind of interesting, and Men in Black seemed to steal the idea for them almost directly. But Howard was just a terrible character. He looked bad, sounded bad and had a completely pathetic personality. Just read one page of any original Steve Gerber Howard the Duck comic book and you will "get" the character in a way the movie couldn't achieve in 2 hours. Howard died with Gerber, the same writing genius who story edited the first season of G.I. Joe, which had all the best episodes. Joe fans owe Gerber a lot and as the duck's creator, Howard fans owe him everything. |

I loved the movie. I am sure it doesn't do the comic justice, but I will forever have Howard the Duck as one of my all time favorite movie.

Siskel and Ebert reviewed it at 8:13 here:
Siskel & Ebert org - Worst of 1986 (1987) Siskel correctly observes that they failed to capture the "Groucho Marx"-like personality of the comic book Howard. |

I have no doubt it fails to capture the style of the comic, but I never read the comic so I could care less about that. The movie has become a cult classic and is always in the top best bad movies list. |

I wonder how Zemeckis got Roger Rabbit greenlit 2 years later after "Howard Duck" had just failed so badly. Well, Spielberg produced Roger Rabbit, which is I guess another example of how he's a much better producer than Lucas.
I think we should spend more time looking back on great comedy classics and masterpieces like Roger Rabbit instead of "good bad movies." Last edited by JediJones; 06-13-2016 at 05:21 AM.. |
