I just wanted to write about this. I hope this is OK in this area of the site so I apologize in advance if it is not.
I just saw the new Star Trek reboot last night and this film made me so happy as V for Vendetta would say "as only celluloid can provide." This film reboots the series basically and they incorporate Leonard Nimoy in many key scene to make the reboot make sence. This is what Star Trek has deserved for the last 40 years and I believe they have started it out rite! I think I moan and groan a lot about things on this site but I have to say that this new Star Trek revamps what was the old 60's show and makes the series believable. Everything was so detailed and stylish. Then engine room actually looks like what an engine room would look like with all the piping, motors, and machinery. I think this reboot is destined for good things. I wanted to post this here because in during the previews G.I.Joe RoC obviously was being advertised. I must say, RoC has to be at least on par with this new Star Trek. It has to be otherwise there will be at least one unhappy camper. Thanks.

i agree with you on pretty much everything except for the engine room. i liked the fact that they wanted to make it look more "real" with the piping and stuff but it just looked to current. they actually shot those engine room scenes in a real refinery.
but that's such a minor detail and most of the other sets were amazing. especially the drill platform where kirk and sulu landed on. the bridge was really cool too. |

And the best part of the movie was the biggest question mark going in, for me.
Chris Pine is absolutely fantastic as Kirk. They/he really nailed the essence of the character. I caught only the one "Shatner-ism" late in the movie, when Kirk is walking onto the bridge right before making his offer to Nero. That was the only hint of Shatner's cadence I caught in the film. |

the movie was great, saw it last night, along with trailer for RoC so now I can't wait until august. Simon Pegg was hilarious as scotty

I didn't think Quinto was great. He was alright...probably did a better job than 90% of other available actors could do. I think the Nimoy portrayal is so iconic that anybody is going to pale in comparison.
Again, I think Pine was really good, Karl Urban was really good, Anton Yelchin was good, Zoe Saldana was good, and Bruce Greenwood was predictably great (he's pretty much great in everything he does). John Cho didn't have much to do, but he was fine in his action piece. Simon Pegg was way over the top, but he was either written that way, or Abrams let him do whatever he wanted. Scotty is the biggest character change from the original. I'd like to see him toned down a touch in future films. The biggest compliment for a genre film is "do I leave the theater wishing I could see a sequel immediately", and the answer here is an unquestioned "yes". |

I'm not really a ST fan, but I am now enamored of Chris Pine.
And I find the scene where 12 year old Kirk to be joyriding in his stepdad's car to be hilarious. Oh, and if it hasn't been pointed out before, that was Rachel "Scarlett" Nichols as the green alien chick.
