Iam in a Batman mood right now and want to see who is the preferred actor as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Sure there are more actors then these two but these are probably the most popular live action portray of Batman. (Besides Adam West but that a whole another subject) If you asked me three years ago I would have said Keaton but I now consider Bale to be the definitive live action Batman. My reasons are he plays more sides then Keaton. Bale has to play the playboy Bruce Wayne, the college student Bruce Wayne, the traveler Bruce Wayne, the personal Bruce Wayne, and the Batman. There are more angles to his character and is much more developed. Keaton is just a guy when he is Bruce Wayne and I don't get much more then that. I could believe Bale could physically be Batman. Mostly in Begins I think he was in the best shape. He has the height and build to be Batman. Keaton kind of a small guy who looks nothing like the Batman looks like in the comics without fake muscles.
So my vote goes towards Christian Bale. |

Bale is the best. Keaton gets points for doing it first, so he'll always be seen as the Sean Connery of the Batmen. But Bale had much more to work with as Bruce Wayne. Plus as far as the movies go, Bale was in three great ones, while Keaton was only in one. Because "Batman Returns" is awful.

I haven't voted, yet, but I do feel bat man returns was a good movie. The dark knight was horrible. Begins was fantastic. Dark knight rises had some good moments, but overall I didn't like it.

Christian Bale shows more expression in his character and does a better job than Keaton imo...

The only thing that bugs me about Bale is that fact that he overemphasizes the Batman voice. Almost grumbling, mumblish! Whereas Keaton had a good raspy, imposing mix.
Also, the villains make the Bale trilogy imo. There are the strongest points in those flicks. |

I heard that the voice was altered to sound more like that during post production.

I voted Keaton because he's a better actor. I don't hold it against him that the movie didn't have the same scope and flavor the Christopher Nolan movies did.
I like Keaton better than Bale- he of the ridiculously cheesy batman voice, but Nolan beats Burton easily. As for the Batman films themselves, while the newer ones are better quality on the whole (what new films aren't?) they won't have the same enduring legacy. The Burton films were an extension of the transformation of Batman from the campy Caped Crusader into the Dark Knight which was pioneered, IIRC, in comics by Frank Miller. While these later movies I believe borrow from Miller's storylines, the flavor and image was already recast by Burton and then Conroy. The Burton movies introduced the iconic Film Score and lead directly to the Animated Series, Superman Crossover series, and the Justice League reimaginings. The relavence of the Nolan movies might just end up being short-lived given that it's rumored that Affleck has been approached about another stand-alone Batman movie....

I think the Burton movies, like all of his, fall more into the fantasy category, while the Nolan ones are action/dramas. But I could see the Nolan films always being remembered as a great trilogy. Pound for pound, they're one of the best trilogies. We don't have to worry about them being undone with a below par fourth movie, like the Indiana Jones and Bourne movies were.
