I have watched the show till episode 8th. Pretty childish perfomances and cheesy and cliche scenes. I see that they try to follow nolan's view on batman but it doesnt work IMHO. I have to accept though that it has some interesting moments and the main plot isnt that bad.
I d say 5/10. |

I don't really see the Nolan connection other than with the Penguin. He's been sort of Joker-ized, but like I said before, he's better than he's ever been. He's always been the lamest Bat villain. He was especially horrible in Batman Returns. What the show reminds me of the most is Batman: The Animated Series. I can just picture each episode being animated, and being just as great.

I have seen all the episodes so far and quite frankly there are things that I am loving about the show and things that I absolutely hate...
Pros: Oswald Cobblepot - I like the way he is presented and I like that he is gaining his wealth by his viciousness and tenacity rather than being born into wealth like it was portrayed in the Tim Burton movie. I like how they show him as a weak, cowering character when in reality he is very calculating. Bruce Wayne - I like the development of his character. How he is testing himself and you can see how he will eventually become the Batman. All the foundations are taking shape and how Gordon and Alfred are teaching him to do the right thing. Harvey Bullock - Love this character. He is a darker version of what he was in the old Batman: TAS. But you can see that it is the same Character. Cons: Montoya: A very annoying character for two reasons... Montoya/ Allen - They pop out of nowhere. Adds nothing to the story except to make threats to Gordon. Montoya/ Barbara - Another angle that the show could do without. Basically Montoya is stalking her old lover and is jealous of Jim Gordon so she has her agenda to destroy him. Now she plants doubts in Barbara's mind about Gordon. Selina Kyle - Just shows up in random places on walls, roof tops (we get it, she'll eventually be Catwoman) and her story line is dragging out. At this point her character has not added anything significant to the show. For me: Since Batman was himself reinvented into "The Dark Knight" during the 80s, the Joker has been well defined and re-defined by Mark Hammil and Heath Ledger. I would even argue that Jack Nicholas was very good playing the Joker because prior to him taking up that role in Burton's 'Batman', the screen portrayal of the Joker was more that of a mischievous birthday clown and not real super-psycopath. We say Danny Devito play Penguin in the second Burton Movie, but in my opinion that was lackluster and forgetable. In every other media since then Pengiun was more or less just a carboard cut-out in the way he was depicted. Robin Taylor in 'Gotham' is treating the Penguin character to a very long awaited character regeneration from the fat, boisterous, and bombastic portrayal by Burgess Meredith into a greasy, sadistic, calculating monster who knows how to play every angle....I think he needs some sort of award. Bruce Wayne: I like it how they're integrating him into the story. We finally get to see a take on his formative years in something other than a few passing minutes in a film. I'm not sure this was intentional, but when Alfred starts teaching Bruce to fight he starts with Boxing. MMA site bloodyelbow broke down Batman's fighting style and from a number of sources deduced that the basis for Batman's martial ability centered around boxing (and Savate). Harvey Bullock. Cardboard pissant in the Animated Series, where I think he was introduced. It's good to see him get a bit of complexity. The problem is that he seems a bit old. by the time Bruce becomes the Bat, he's going to be really old. He looks mid-forties now.. Montoya and Allen are .... meh. They read like two characters that writers introduced for the purposes off killing later. At some point main character death among the good guys has to happen, and we know who it can't be. It's like we're going to probably marginally like them at some point, but the writers aren't going to try too hard before snuffing them some time late this season... Selina Kyle. At this point she has purpose. They are doing well intertwining hers and Bruce's respective destinies at this point. Fish Mooney is very well concieved and well acted. I like where this going. I give the series a B+ so far.

I've never been a fan of Jada Pinkett Smith, but I thought she's done a good job as Fish Mooney. I've just been getting a little sick of her on the show lately. I was starting to think that maybe they should kill her off. But last night? Ho-lee shit! That was just about the most badass thing that I've ever seen. I am officially a Fish Mooney fan again. Can't believe they got away with that at 8 o'clock.

This show IS rubbish, but I am still watching it because I love Batman and his enemies and don't care how bad it gets, although I hope it gets better because I hate wasting my time.

Gotham is my favorite show on now- well, after Better call Saul- but it's easily one of the best shows on TV. Just about everything is perfect Fish's parts tend to lose me a bit, but everyone from Alfred to bullock to Gordon... brilliants!

This show is great, my number one show is The Walking Dead, but Gotham is cool, its a cop show but straight from DC comics.

I am watching The Wire now, and every time I see Falcone (who played a Police Major on The Wire), I am reminded that The Wire is an amazingly realistic and accurate portrayal of policing politics in a massive corrupt metropolis. Gotham is a bananas banana-ville version of bananas characters running around a bananaopolis.
