First, I believe you should add Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Marion Cotillard as Talia al Ghul. Other than the fact that I didn't care for Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel, I thought that all the actors did excellent jobs.

Hmm good question. Here's ol Jokers breakdown......
Neeson was great as Ras.....best villain hands down in the trilogy. Bale as Batman: He seems to get lot of hate recently but I never had any complaints with him in the role.....great Bruce....AWESOME Batman. except for the retirement......that lets the entire trilogy down. Caine as Alfred: Superb I felt until DKR when he walked out on Bruce. Nolan should be beaten with a switch for putting that in there.... he really should. Dawes: carboard Kate was crap as her and MG wasn't much better.....IMO a rubbish character that distracted too much from the narrative. Gary Oldman as James Gordon: Best performance in the trilogy alongside Bale. Wouldn't have a word said against him in the role. Ledger as Joker: cracking obviously.....just SO good. Not enough laughter for me but that's a small complaint. Will always be 2nd to jacks Joker for me though. Nolans obsession with reality or "being grounded2 stripped us of what could have been the flawless onscreen Joker. Eckhart as Dent/Two Face: Not dark enough as Harvey I'm afraid. The switch to Two Face felt rushed and unnatural IMO. Hathaway as Catwoman: Loved her performance....IMO she nailed it. However would it have fucking killed Nolan to call her The Catwoman? Really? Hardy as Bane: Tremendously enjoyable IMO. Thought his dialogue was A1. Cotilliard as Talia: Meh. called it nearly a year before it was in theatres....so the twist didn't surprise me and it was left FAR too late. Cillian Murphy/ Scarecrow: Again my fellow Irishmen deliver a strong villain. Wish more had been done with him in sequels though. Nolan's instance on being "grounded" hampered this trilogy for me but not enough to genuinely hurt its brilliance. |

The Joker licking his lips constantly was about the creepiest thing ever... too bad it was his last performance, it was probably the most brilliantly played comic book villain in a long time.

Gary oldman is a fantastically gifted actor (the early stage and theatre training and conditioning ,has served him well)who's performance in these movies often gets overlooked, oldman gives a very understated but assured turn in nolans trilogy.

It's a very tough question simply because it's pretty much the epitome of an "all star" cast. Katie Holmes would have to be the weak link, but I can't complain at all about her performance.
Morgan Freeman definitely deserves a mention for elevating a relatively unknown or overlooked character to someone that really was more important than Alfred. Granted, in the comics Alfred had taken care of most of what Lucius did in the movies. But Morgan made him sort of like Batman's version of Q. My vote though goes to Tom Hardy as Bane. I never cared for the character before. He always seemed so...90's. But with the look, the voice (the accent was just perfect) and the way they made him look so much bigger, he was genuinely chilling. The kind of guy you'd be nervous to be in the presence of. |

There have been some absolute stellar actors/actresses throughout the trilogy as some of you have already mentioned, but my absolute favorite is Ledger. I think he nailed the role as the Joker in the grounded world that Nolan wanted. He's not the ultimate embodiment of the Joker, but I truly enjoyed watching him do his thing. It was his finest work in my opinion.
