If you've been reading the posts on this particular GI Joe fan board you may have noticed an interesting trend.
People that have seen ROC and liked it seem to have no interest in District 9, while people that hate ROC are predicting that District 9's opening will drastically cut into ROC's ticket sales. Keep in mind that the majority of people that have seen ROC have liked it. Is District 9 being marketed to people who are unsatisfied with ROC? If that is the case District 9 will be the summer's biggest bomb, seen only by a small percentage of the people that have seen ROC, that small percentage being the haters that didn't like ROC. Too bad for District 9, it's only claim to fame being a topic of conversation on a GI Joe fan board. Better luck next time... Yo Joe! |

You're going to get hammered, just warning ya now, lol
Generalizations lead to trouble. I liked RoC and I have interest in District 9. I don't think D9 is as big a "threat" to RoC as some people seem to think it will be. But won't know until Monday next week. No real point in speculating. Edit: The marketing of D9 has nothign to do with RoC, at all.

I'm pretty sure the folks marketing District 9 aren't marketing to anyone specific when it comes to RoC. They're marketing to the same "male" audience that most summer movies that aren't Romantic Comedies cater to.
I'm also pretty sure it won't be the "summer's biggest bomb." I also think you're taking this District 9 hate thing a little too far. The only reason it's being discussed is because it's the most likely film to dethrone G.I. Joe from its' #1 spot next week. That's not a big deal. Only two movies all summer have held on to the #1 spot for longer than one week, and being #1 for a second week is pretty irrelevant compared to the actual amount of money made. If District 9 beats G.I. Joe, it probably won't be by too wide of a margin. If G.I. Joe beats District 9, it'll be the same way. I don't think the folks marketing District 9 are expecting it to be a "mega blockbuster" anyway. In fact, I'm betting we'll have one of those weekends where the #1 and #2 movie are virtually tied. Also, they are for different audiences, ROC is more for teenagers, D9 is more for adults. |

Both films are entirely different animals.
I'm sure there are tons of people who will see this movie. They just don't post at this message board. |
