Pfft. Ok enough with all of this "change" bullshit already. I've been listening to that crap from idiot, jerkwad politicians since September 2008 and it's gotten old and stale. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. If you don't mind them crapping all over the original series and reinventing the wheel, great. I do not share you viewpoint and never will. There's no point in discussing that any further.

F that. Is that fanboi'ism? I don't give a shit. I am not going to accept it and I'd bet Roddenberry wouldn't accept it either if he were still alive. Roddenberry was all about pushing the envelope and exploring new adventures in the Star Trek universe, not reinventing the past. If he wanted to just reinvent the past, he could have just remade the original instead of opting for TNG back in the 80s. Hell, they could have reinvented the original several times over by now with DS9, Voyager, etc. They didn't though. Everytime they launched a new series it was something new that had not been done before and it gave us a new perspective in the ST universe. Like it or not but there's plenty of other ships and plenty of other stories that could be told in the Star trek universe. There was absolutely no reason for them to go back and tamper with the original series characters. The only reason they're doing so is because they don't have the creative moxy to come up with something new and refreshing that will draw ST fans back into the fold. So screw this film and the ass clowns associated with it.
Sure there are plenty of ships and plenty of stories...except all the stories would simply end up being rehashes of what happened in previous Trek series anyhow. Nevermind that each succeeding "new" Trek series got progressively less and less popular, until "Enterprise" ended up getting the entire franchise put on hold for a couple years. You're right, though, I'm clearly not going to change your mind. You're bound and determined to hate simply for the sake of hating. When your definition of "ass clown" is apparently "because I say they're an ass clown" I suppose I shouldn't expect any sort of objective reasoning or logical arguments to support the position. |

So one car in the movie makes it a lot of "fast cars?" I'm betting the car isn't seen again after that scene...particularly since it goes off the cliff! It also isn't the dude playing Kirk in the car...it's a kid playing a pre-teenage Kirk. It's one scene from early in the movie. Quote:
I don't mean to straw-man, but should a Trek movie not have spectacular stunts? What would be an "acceptable" stunt to you in this context?

Or they wanted pretty faces with moderate acting ability. Many of these actors are relative unknowns, and young enough that it'd be kind of hard for them to have "critically acclaimed" careers when said careers are just starting to get off the ground. "Critically acclaimed" is a rather subjective term anyway...acclaimed by which critics? I'm pretty sure Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, and Zachary Quinto have all received some degree of critical acclaim already. If everyone on the cast being an Oscar Winner or Oscar nominee is the only way a film can have a good cast, that's a rather unrealistic standard. Quote:
You don't need to apologize. Your opinion is your opinion, and if it ain't your cup of tea, it ain't your cup of tea.
