The thing is, you can only wait so long to make a sequel. And they waited too long with KOTS. If it had come out say four or five years after The Last Crusade, it would have been a better movie. Even with the exact same script. Director's styles change over the years, and Speilberg's definitely had. He and his director of photography, Janusz Kaminski, were trying to recreate the look of the original films (which Kaminski didn't work on), rather than just making it the way they normally would. I think if he had made this right after he did "Jurassic Park", it would have looked more natural.
Has there ever been a case where a sequel was made ten or more years later and it turned out good? Stuff like the Star Wars prequels and The Godfather III come to mind, and they just back up my theory. |

And both of those were faaaaaaar removed from their much superior first films. Rambo was almost a spoof, and Rocky Balboa, well I took that as an apology for Rocky V.

thats what I took Rocky Balboa for too man......an apology for the dire and repulsive Rocky V.
its one saving grace was showing Rocky actually had ill effects after Drago hammering him. |

The only reason that I'd want to see another, is just so that the franchise wouldn't end on such an awful note as "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". It didn't feel like an Indiana Jones movie to me. Everything about it was just off. Tons of scenes had a look as if they were done in front of a greenscreen and the acting was odd, almost as if it were a play, not a movie.
I am hoping if they do a 5th Indy it will replace the flop of Crystal Skull. |

You didn't say anything about "first" films. You said sequels. Both the films I mentioned were sequels that were made 10 or more years after the films that preceded them, and were better (and better received) than the films that preceded them.

I'll give you Rocky Balboa as being a way to go out on a good note, but I'll dispute Rambo. That was just shit. It may have been better received, but it was a big departure from even Rambo III. I think Sly was just riding the nostalgia wave on that one. People seemed to laugh at it more than enjoy it. Part III actually seems like a better movie now than it did when it first came out.

Rambo was alright, just way too violent to ever watch again. I'm not squeamish... but seeing guys getting vaporized by that 50 cal is too much for me.
I had the same issues with Schindler's List... powerful movie, but hard to see all those people getting graphically killed.
