I have to agree here. I hate chick flicks, but the Notebook had me crying my head off at the end...
What a good movie. And it started my Racheal McAdams love affair... yowzers!!! But it's definately worth seeing. I challenge anyone to see it and not get weepy at the end. |

Just look at how we rag on those deviant grown men who spend thousands of dollars on little plastic military action figures and vehicles. God they're pathetic. Hmm wait a second, nm. I'm too old or too sheltered to have really been exposed to the so-called Goth or emo thing. I mean, I see teenagers in the mall sometimes dressed in these outlandish black outfits but I used to wear acid washed jeans tight-rolled with high-top British Knights (with a black and gold tiger print) and neon green and orange t-shirts, so far be it from me to criticize the exuberance of youth. They certainly look better than I did.
These days, my entire wardrobe consists of threadbare 4 year-old clothes from Old Navy and a few Ralph Lauren shirts here and there. I've got so many navy polos and khakis that everytime I go in Wal-Mart, people think I work there. I can't really describe my look as prep 'cause the preps I see obviously put a lot more thought and effort into their appearance than I do, and I'm too fat to wear stuff from J. Crew or Brooks Brothers comfortably. Check that. I'm too cheap to order from Brooks Brothers and J. Crew, but I think I'm too fat for J. Crew anyway. I'd call myself lazy wannabe prep slouch. Yeah. As much as I like the Vampire Lestat, this whole Vampire as Weepy Girly-man thing started with her. I feel a little sick to my stomach when I hear someone gushing over this Rice-wanna be series.

you know as soon as my wife started describing this series, i asked her if she had ever read the ann rice series as the romance drama seems to take off from there and go into teen overdrive. i much prefer the saga series from ann rice to this teen romance/drama.

Eh, nothing new really. I don't really worry too much about it, if people dig that kinda thing that's fine as long as it doesn't get shoved in my face.
My favorite Vampire film is Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula, the second would be Interview with a Vampire. A good friend of mine is into Twilight, she pokes fun at it too though. I really don't know too much about it except for what she's told me but from what I've heard and seen it doesn't seem like my thing. As for the whole "emo" thing, that term gets thrown around so much I don't doubt that the definition has changed a bit since it was first thought of. I see dudes in the super tight pants and think to myself "man that doesn't look comfy at all.." but then again I'm still trapped in the mid 90's rocking baggy pants and shorts, but hey I'm comfy and don't give a damn so I figure that's how most of those guys must feel too. While I may not get the latest trends/subcultures of today I don't really care enough to go out of my way to be pissed at them. Keep it out of my face, and I won't bother you plain and simple. Live and let live! Get pissed off because I don't pay you special attention? well then now you're asking for it hehe. Last edited by CallMeRotten; 03-23-2009 at 03:47 AM.. |

To be fair to the whole "glitters in sunlight" thing, the whole "killed by sunlight" thing was pretty much invented in the 1920s, when they were making Nosferatu the Vampire. They were pretty heavily ripping off Dracula, and needed something to let them claim they were different, when the lawsuits came.
This movie does seem to be the latest incarnation of the sexy vampire, that Sheridan Lefanu started, with Carmilla. At least Lefanu remembered to keep his vamp a predator. I've not read Dracula, so I don't know if Stoker picked up on any of the undead romance qualities, but they certainly found their way into the various movies that have been made from the book. Anne Rice picked up that torch, and has since run screaming with it. Twilight just sounds like the next step in the puppy-fication of vampires. I can't really say too much about the reinvintion of old legends, considering the liberties I've taken with werewolves in my own work. I do at least recognize the old legends, and use them as the basis for a different group of werewolves. The more I hear about this movie, the more I want to rewatch 30 Days of Night. |

Im not judging Emos by a movie I havent seen, but by the ones I see at the mall....by the ones that my GF have as friends....FYI her Emo or Scene Friends cut themselves, are rich, are depressed, throw up after EVERY meal......and used to play Dance Dance Revolution......then the ones that come into my store......the ones I see sitting on the side of the road......the ones I see at the store....Etc, Etc.....if Im wrong sorry, but I call them as I see them.....and again Skinny Jeans suck....they really do make a womans body look horrible....This movie is all Emo...Answer me this.....why do Emo boys like their Emo Women to look like 8 year old boys?
Look at this way,if you met a couple of bad G.I.Joe collectors... You wouldn't judge ALL G.I.Joe collectors based on them would you? The simple fact is we're not all the same and it's not fair to compare the rest of us to some losers. As for why someone would want their women to look like 8 year olds,I have no idea! That's creepy and not something I have ever heard of being related to the emo scence. We do get a lot of crap for wanting our women to wear a lot of makeup and have piercings. Oh and guess what, I first got into emo because of a girl, she changed me forever.... good times Quote:
You must be new. Just wait until the next "this movie is going to kill GI Joe" thread. Talk about some hate speech, yeesh.

Hating a movie becuase it dosen't please it's fans is way, way, way different than hating on a subculture of people. BTW what kinda of music do you listen to? Soul? Oh man now your soul, yep thats what you are. You see how stupid labels are? People aren't emo! They're just people who may or may not listen to emo music or dress emo. |

I just watched Twilight on pay per view, WTF. Now I'm not a 14 year old girl in skinny jeans who wears too much eye makeup and likes to cut herself, but with all the buzz around this movie, plus the fact that I love vampire movies I still thought I might like it. WRONG!!! These lame ass teeny bopper emo vamps didn't even have fangs, and what kind of vampire glitters in the sunlight. Now maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety and don't understand these kids and their new fangled crap, but I really thought this movie sucked (not in a cool vampire blood sucking way either). So am I just totally off base here and didn't get this supposedly ground breaking piece of cinema or did some of you guys think it was awful too.
Well I would think just by looking at the box or the trailer you could figure that out your self. Really you should be ashamed to be a Joe fan and have watched Twilight. (JK) I hope you shot the TV with all your guns when you didn't like it!! Wall mart has a official Twilight section, it is in the teen girl clothing department. Well really I am on the same side as yall I just think its super... homosexual. Clues.. Clues.. Clues...
