Hmmm basically I'm down to Metalacolypse and Family guy, the DC stuff looks cool, just no time. Thanks to dvd, 80's television is alive and well here!

I finally caved in and watched an ep of 6-Teen on CN. Keep in mind anything with teens and without giant robots, magic powers, or some combination of the two is like kryptonite to me, but even I have to grudgingly admit that it's pretty damn good, especially after beign treated to the greatest, most hillarious homage to Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" video ever.

The Hell Boy animated stuff is really cool. There are two movies out on DVD, Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron. If you like Hell Boy you should enjoy both of these.

If you have the former "Toon Disney" (I think it's now called "Disney XD" or something), they've been airing quite the treasure trove of Marvel and DC cartoons since last year. Their schedule rotates frequently, but I've seen the following on there:
-Superman: The Animated Series
-Spider-Man (FOX, 1994-1997)
-X-men (FOX, 1992-1997)
-Fantastic Four (1994-1995)
-Incredible Hulk (1996-1997)
-Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends (1982-1984)
Plus, "The Tick", which pops up occasionally. I can't recall if "Batman: TAS" and the 1994 "Iron Man" are on there, as well.
But getting back to the gist of this thread: I think that the issue with cartoons nowadays is that they're split into two camps:
1- the kiddie shows.
2- The "Adult Swim" type of shows.
It seems that older cartoons at least had some attempt to appeal to all ages. "Tiny Toon Adventures" or "Animaniacs" come to mind as shows that appealed to both schoolkids and older "kids". Heck, even old Looney Tunes and Woody Woodpecker shorts did that.
Today, it seems like your cartoon is either in one or the other. If you're funny and want to slip in wacky antics for 20-30 somethings to quote on message boards...then you make an "Adult Swim" type of cartoon. If you want merchandising and flashy noises, then you make stuff like the FOX saturday morning junk.

I don't have cable right now, so I'm missing some of these shows. However, I just got Batman:Gotham knight and Star Wars:Clone Wars for my b-day. I watched the Batman:TAS episodes, and found that I hadn't seen two of them. Legends of the Dark Knight was awesome, with its renditon of Dark Knight Returns. Man, I wish they'd make a full length animated movie of that. I haven't seen Clone Wars yet, but I'm going to watch it in a few minutes.

There are VERY FEW good cartoons out there. I mean most of it is some runoff of Pokemon or Dragonball Z, or some stupid crap that we refuse to watch. I know the TV is trying to get kids into this craze of what we call "Stupid Cartoons" and apparently it works for them. But I'll take what I can get .. but it pains me to watch Transformers Animation.. the story maybe there but give me the 1980's animation to go with it and I can handle it. But not like it is now... I can't take it!!!
