i'm a homer, so of course i went with Kobe Bean Bryant.
but realistically, the Cavs would be the Bucks were it not for LeBron.
i think the Lakers have shown on numerous occasions that they can win without Kobe scoring 20+.
Can't say the same for the Cavs or the Heat.
I like D-Wade, A LOT. but the Heat are non-contenders, so that's that.

The NBA's done a poor job of being consistent with what makes for an MVP should be these past few years.
- Is it "the guy who makes his teammates better?" (Steve Nash, 2006 MVP)
- Is it "the best player on the team with the best regular-season record?" (Dirk Nowitzki, 2007 MVP)
- Is it "the best player on an acknowledged championship-calibre team?" (Kobe Bryant, 2008 MVP)
Based on the last three MVP selections, I think Bryant, LeBron, and D-Wade all have legitimate claims for the MVP title this season.
Personally though, I'd go for D-Wade (and I'm not even a fan of his). No legit franchise player has had to work with less this season: he's got a rookie point guard, a rookie sixth man, and a one-legged Jermaine O'Neal as the best players on his team, not to mention the fact that he also has a first-time head coach in Erik Spoelstra, but he still has the Heat in the hunt for not just a seat in the playoffs, but home-court advantage, all while leading the NBA in scoring and putting up unusually high rebound and block numbers for a guard.
I doubt if he'll win it, though. Even discounting the fact that it's been around a quarter-century since a player from a sub-50 win team won the MVP award, it's been all about Kobe vs. LeBron this season (and any other year, I would've picked either one as MVP based on their performances).
Anyway, I guess my answer is I think Wade should win the award, but I'm pretty confident that LeBron will be the one who actually gets to take home the Maurice Podoloff Trophy.

Honestly, I have to say Wade. While the Cavs would be my beloved Bucks if not for King James, the Heat would be the Kings without Wade.
Kobe is surrounded by very good players. Bynum was well on his way to the AllStar game over Shaq before he was hurt and Pau was an All Star. James has a fellow All-Star in Mo Williams and a sickly deep bench.
Wade has taken that team on his back and willed it to a playoff berth, and is easily playing the best ball of anyone in the league right now. It's one thing if you do like Iverson for years and lead the league in scoring with a low percentage and your team is mediocre. Wade is leading the league in scoring on a respectable shooting percentage, is winning, and is getting big assist numbers as a 2.
I think the two men lost in the mix are Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. I think the jury is still out on whether Howard can take his team deep into the playoffs. I think the gap between Paul and the 2nd best PG is greater than the gap between any top two players in any other position in basketball. He would be my #2. Kobe 3, and Lebron 4.

I'm a huge basketball fan and lifelong Laker fan, so of course I'm pulling for Kobe, but here is what bugs me about the MVP race and all the comments from the basketball media.
First there is so much hype about Lebron and how the Cavs would be nothing without him, this is true the cavs would be another lottery team without Lebron but the MVP according to all the b-ball pundits should be someone who makes their team better, correct?
IMO, Lebron doesn't do this and people argue that the talent level of the Lakers overall team is better than the Cavs but the same way the Lakers have Gasol the Cavs also have Mo Williams who was also an all star this year. I think Kobe truly makes the rest of the guys on this team better, the Trevor Ariza's, Jordan Farmar's etc! To me the Cavs have to have Lebron go for 30+ every night or they don't stand much of a chance, why because he's not empowering his teammates to succeed, he's just doing what it takes to win ON HIS OWN!
Don't get me wrong that's totally fine but 3 years ago prior to Gasol coming over and the emergence of Bynum, Kobe was doing the exact same thing as Lebron....taking over games, imposing his will on games just to give the Lakers a fighting chance to win. Remember his 62 pts in 3 quarters against the Mavs or his 81pt outburst against the Raptors and he didn't even finish higher than 3rd in the MVP race. Why, because all basketball commentators said it's not about the points it's about winning and making your team better! Well that's what he was doing, if Kobe wasn't doing what he was doing then his team would not have even made the playoffs (same as Lebron) so why is it okay for Lebron to have the career year he's having and be considered a lock for MVP, but Kobe wasn't back then? Basically since both teams have almost the same record it really is up in the air for either one of them, I just don't like all the over hyping of Lebron because he's not doing anything different than Kobe did 3 years ago

I voted Lebron, but Wade is SO nice. I wish he was on a relevant team (although to be fair, no one thought they were relevent the year they beat Dallas in the Finals.)

Dude, Lebron is doing with Kobe did 3 years ago, but the Cavs are WINNING. MJ avg'd 37/gm in 86/87 and didn't win MVP. That's because the Bulls stunk.
If you can HONESTLY say that Lebron's 28.5 pts, 7.5 boards, and 7.2 assists is the same as Kobe's 35/5.3/4.5, when the Cavs have more wins at this point in the season than the Lakers had that entire season, then you're on something good. Looking at the stats further, I think I change my position that Lebron would be over Kobe for 3rd, with Chris Paul as my #2.
