First of all, Penn has an Oscar for Mystic River.
This might had been Rourke's only shot at an Oscar. Penn is going to continue making great movies. And if not Rourke, why not Brad Pitt? Brad has done great work in the past and should have been rewarded. What do you guys think? |

I wonder if it has anything to do with his considering that match against Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania? For some reason everyone hates wrestling! I really want to see the Wrestler, though.

I'm having a hard time remembering a Sean Penn movie that I liked.

Sean Penn is one of the Hollywood elite. Beavis & Butthead best described the Oscars, Grammies, etc. with the (paraphrased) comment...
"Uhhh...I think it's like, an award you get for being rich. Uh-huh-huh-huh." |

Even though I haven't seen The Wrestler yet, I was pulling for Rourke. He'll never be nominated again, and he was definitely the Underdog. He's had one hell of a comeback for the shit he's been through.
Pitt is a good actor, but he's got many many years ahead of him. I also thought that Button tried too hard to something akin to "Forrest Gump" meets "Big Fish", but there were too many layers to the film... It was simply too much story-in-a-story-in-a-story... And Pitt did a great job... Penn is a great actor, but he's kind of a dick (he amusingly acknowledged being a pain in the ass to deal with in his acceptance speech), and he's won before, been nominated numerous times, and will be again. I have liked Rourke in everything I have seen him in since he came back to acting. He was awesome in Domino and SinCity. He and Ray Liota should team up in an ugly "heavy" movie.

I've never thought Sean Penn was that gifted an actor. So you can cry and scream and twitch and glare intensely. Big deal. The best actors and actresses disappear into their roles, and you always know you're watching Sean Penn ham it up.
He'd be a good Serpentor, though, and Lord, he'd give it all to that role-the personality amagalmation of some of history's most accomplished despots bent on destroying the United States. I've got it! Seanpentor!!! THIS I COMMAND!!! |
