comic books = brain dead low brow entertainment
pro wrestling = brain dead low brow entertainment movie about poor hindu boy who gets rich = socially relevant film movie about gay rights = socially relevant film The Academy DOES NOT CARE what the people who shell out 8-15 bucks to see a movie like The Dark Knight, Transformers, Iron Man, The Wrestler and many other movies of the Action/Sci-Fi/Comic Book genres think. I know for a fact that I will never live to see a movie like those win Best Picture. The factis, Hollywood has an elitist mentality that thinks that a movie has to be in another language, historical, or have some moral to it in order to be recognized for what it truly is, entertainment. The only reason Heath Ledger got the oscar is due to his death, regardless of the fact that he should have won if he was still living but we all know he wouldn't have. Mickey Rourke, IMHO is the best actor of the year. Dark Knight won 2 awards and almost every time it was nominated, it went up against Iron Man in a cinematography of special effects category. Robert Downey Jr. should have been recognized for his role as Tony Stark long before his role in Tropic Thunder and they nominated him for a role that drew heat for being racially insensitive. I don't mean to rant but I have come to the conclusion that no matter what the paying movie goers think, it does not matter. Hollywood has, going as far back as the first Superman movie, basically turned a blind eye to anything other than Special Effects in most action movies. I don't want to knock Slumdog Millionaire, Milk and the others, but lets face it, how may of us have said "I have to see that when it comes out"? I will also go on record as stating that a movie based off of a comic, cartoon or video game, no matter how well done, will still lose the major oscar awards. I'm also willing to bet that a homemade porn of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie would win Best picture before something like The Wrestler or Dark Knight.

Oh, no. If you actually watch it, you have to endure the pseudo-plot/script, too. This is just a synthesis of the shark scenes.

Like any intelligent person I do it by issue. I don't simply paint board strokes that I live my life by. I suggest you do the same. Like any red blooded American I accept public opinion only on the issues I agree with. If I don't, you better believe I'm going to stand up.
Nice try at logic though... You support the opinions of society only when they agree with your own. And you have the gall to lecture me about this type of thing? |

Who knows. But Gorillas in the Mist did get quite a few Oscar nominations. It's not like it got completely snubbed. Sigourney Weaver also won the Golden Globe for her role in the movie. Sean got nominated for a GG for Milk but did not win (Rourke got the GG). This happens a lot between the GG and Oscars. Some people think they vote for whoever didn't win for the GG's.
BTW, I like how they reversed the shot of the shark eating people sometimes to try and "trick" you into thinking it's a different shot!

And you don't? You will take the opinion of the masses at face value even though you disagree with them? You have the gall to take this stance? Much like you have the gall to trash a movie you have never seen? Yea... I'm wrong here.

"Iron Man" "The Dark Knight" "Valkyrie" "Gran Torino" "Bangkok Dangerous" I haven't seen "Slumdog Millionaire" or "The Wrestler" yet, but I would like to see them. "Death Race" was a guilty pleasure that I enjoyed, but I won't seriously nominate it for an academy award. I would put it before "Milk" any day of the week, however. If the academy wants to snub a great documentary like "Gorillas in the Mist" but openly award a homosexual documentary like "Milk," then it's crystal clear where their loyalties are. PS... That last statement is just a factual analysis, and nothing more. |
