OMG don't start doggin' Clone Wars now LOL, I liked that one too, Less than all the movies except EP1. This animated flick ties with that one. But the CArtoon Network episodes are freakin' awesome! |

I have no prob with the inclusion of aliens, as was stated, it's part of the mythos. It's how that mythos was interpreted and portrayed. It uses a real myth and makes it The Mummy meets Close Encounters. I like both of those movies, but a mix? Did I mention the monkey scene?

REAL Stuff? Like the ARK that no one can prove exists, or voodoo priests taking a mans heart out and he still lives, or the Cup of Christ that no one can prove exists? I know, I know...many people believe in them, but many believe in Aliens as well and I think that this Alien storyline brings to light the belief of some archeologists that Aliens seeded this planet long ago and that ancient civilizations worshiped them as gods (Egypt, Stargate and a million other examples). So I think the alien thing fit well with all of the religious artifacts and themes from the first three movies

You know my friend. I agree with you. Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was a bigger letdown than the 2000 release of Joe vs Cobra.
The movie had too much unnecessary CGI(after they told us they wouldn't have it), the general premise of the movie was lame, and it relied on too many of the cliches of todays film rather than trying to do something different. But I did enjoy the visual design of the film. But overall, it was a big letdown. |

I liked indy 4
- had the 50's sci-fi movie feel to it like the 30-40's adventure serials did. - action sequences were great (sans vine swinging and monkeys) -Good villain -Took the red scare into account -Played off indy's age -Good relic to recover -Great cinematography my Kaminski -Lavish set pieces -The return of Marion Ravenwood -Brings indy into the nuclear age -Cool villain with psychic powers -More past history divulged about Indy's past, he was a colonel in the army and won a lot of medals, was also a spy, and also has a son. -And he realizes that he's become anachronistic -And Shia Lebeouf does as good a job as any of his side-kicks in any of the earlier films. -Little easter egg appearance of the ark as he bashes out of the hangar. If you really get the idea of the sci-fi B movies/comics of the 50's, and how they were constructed, and why they were made the way they were in reference to the social and political climate of the time, and look at indy 4 in that way, it's a really great film for an INDY set in the 50's. |

See Aliens in this made up for the lack of Nazis for me and I'll tell you why, in the 30s there was a lot of interest in supernatural archeology stories thanks to the finding of King Tut's grave in the late 20s, there were lots of stories like that and that's what Jones was a homage to... when you move it up to the 50s/60s, scifi was becoming more prominent so that's what the homage is too.

I also never understood the complaints about the aliens, or why people were surprised aliens were at the end of the film. Really? 5 minutes into the film, they're talking about the Rosewell crash, a dead alien body and a skull that's definately not human. If aliens hadn't been at the end of the film, I would've been really disappointed. And finally the fridge scene. Yeah, it was pretty outrageous, but it also symbolized Indy's introduction to the Atomic Age. They couldn't make another 30s serial like the other 3 because, frankly, Harrison was too old and they wanted to age him in real time ( 19 years pass between Last Crusade and Crystal Skull both in real time and the movie's timeline ). It would have been waaayy less believable if they tried to keep the movie set in the 30s, with him fighting Nazis AGAIN. Honestly, what more did the haters expect? The plot was set up EXACTLY like the other Indy films: 1) Historical/legendary object to locate 2) Comedic Sidekick 3) Damsel in Distress 4) Exotic Locations 5) Evil militaristic organization in search of said object 6) Villian that dies because of their greed of, once again, said object Sometimes moviegoers hold the first 3 up on too high of pedestools when comparing them to Crystal Skull. Believe me, they are really fun movies to watch, but they, too, have their own moments of outrageousness. And moviegoers are so cynical in this day and age that we just can't sit back and enjoy a good action flick for what its worth, like we all used to do as younger versions of ourselves when the last ones came out. This movie was no more and no less than what the other 3 were, an enjoyable popcorn-flick and tribute to the decade it represented. Last edited by CCSpidey81; 11-19-2008 at 06:39 AM.. |

Heh. Watch now...
Summer of 2010.... "Indiana Jones and the Search for More Money" Indy looks for new ways to get fans of the original movies to come into theaters to watch. ^_^ Personally, I didn't mind Indy 4. Better then some 80s franchise revivals we've had lately. |
