From imdb.com:
Murphy To Portray Pryor In Biopic 27 February 2009 5:30 PM, PST Comedian Eddie Murphy has landed his dream role - portraying late, great funnyman Richard Pryor in a new biopic. The Beverly Hills Cop actor has reportedly signed up to star in Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? - a project being put together by Dreamgirls director and 2009 Oscars producer Bill Condon. And Murphy, whose early stand-up routines included impersonations of the comedic icon, is allegedly so keen to play his hero he has waived his usual multi-million dollar fee. Pryor's career highs and lows, including his well-publicised battles with alcohol and drug addiction and his struggle with multiple sclerosis, will feature heavily in the project. The comedian, 65, died after suffering a heart attack in 2005. He starred in and directed 1986's Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling - a story loosely based on his own life. But Condon's film - with a relatively small budget of $25 million (£17.7 million) - will be the first Pryor biopic to make it to the big screen. |

Wasn't Damon Wayans attached to that at one point?

I'll go see it, I think murphy isn't the best choice though.
I mean, back when he was funny, Eddie was great, but this would be like casting willie nelson as johnny cash.

From what I remember R. Pryor HATED Eddie Murphy...He hated working with him on Harlem Nights.

This is Murphy trying to win an Oscar, since he walked out of the Oscars like a bitch, when he didn't win for his nom for Dreamgirls.
SPOILER BELOW And in a leaked draft of Beverly Hills Cop 4 Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) gets killed off in the first ten minutes of the movie by getting tossed out a window, and Axel Foley (Murphy) has to avenge Rosewood, much like he had to avenge Michael Tandino's (James Russo) murder in the first movie. Rumor has that Axel teams with Taggert (John Ashton) who comes out of retirement to help Axel find Billy's Killers. Last edited by MLos1; 03-02-2009 at 05:28 PM.. |

That specific draft, is like the first movie in tone and narrative. Just minus Rosewood and Bogomill. Add Taggert again, make it rated R, probably throw in a rookie-ish lady cop to take the place of Rosewood, and it'll bounce out as BHC4
