I'm going to go out on a bit of limb here...
But I have a love/hate relationship with "Full Metal Jacket". The first half is great! I can't think of a better movie about military training. It's the standard on Basic Training Movies... so funny. The second half is just awful. I have to admit I'm not a Stanley Kubrick fan. Anybody else feel this way? I usually just turn it off as soon as they leave Basic Training.

Uncommon Valor has a special place for me because as a kid it was the only Vietnam related anything my Dad would watch. My Dad was Special Forces and Black Ops in Vietnam and he does not talk about it much, but that movie about getting the guys we left behind back, well it moved him to tears.
My Dad, and my Grandfather (Battle of the Bulge in WWII) are true heroes.

My Granddaddy was at the Bulge (Infantry Captain, 69th Infantry Division: Ft. Dix, NJ). That's awesome, man. Happy Veterans Day.

Nice, I don't know Division and all that but he was a Sgt and Machine Gunner. (He also lied to get in at 16).
When I think of them, and my Great Grandfather (WWI) it saddens me that my Knees and Back kept me out. For those of you that serve, I am in your debt and you do us all proud.

Top Gun - Meg Ryan=Hot Forrest Gump - I gotta save Bubba Iron Eagle - Who wouldn't want to be the kid that saves their dad First Blood-duh! Especially a Joe-fan in '82 Super Bowl XX - 85 Bears & the Fridge! not really a movie but who cares? Full Metal Jacket - R. Lee Ermey is the POO! Starship Troopers - NPH, how can you go wrong? Red Dawn - Cold war my ass...Wolverines!!! Saving Private Ryan - Sad, touching, bonding war movie and GD it sounds good on surround sound TAPS - maybe I was the only one that thought military school looked fun after watching this movie There you have it my picks. Enjoy these flicks with a bucket of popcorn, a bag of m & m's, and your favorite Joe at your side

My Dad was commissioned into the Army in '72, but never had to go to 'Nam. My Uncle Frank was there with the 7th Special Forces Group. Uncle Frank and I are pretty close because he was my Scoutmaster. Sometimes, when it was just the older boys in our Scout Troop, Uncle Frank would tell us little bits and pieces of stories if we asked him questions. I used to have nightmares after he talked to us. It wasn't just what he said, it was the look he got and the way his voice changed when he spoke.
I have to say, I'm always grateful to men like your Father and my Uncle Frank and Tall Creeper's Dad and Uncle. That war was something else. It must have been terrible. Those guys went through stuff I can't begin to imagine. And a good bit of the country just spit on them when they came home. I don't know how they all put up with it as well as they did. One of the saddest stories Uncle Frank ever told us was how he had to spend the night in jail in San Francisco the night he got home. Some drugged out hippie attacked him with a knife in a public restroom. Uncle Frank - right out of Special Forces - put the guy in the hospital. He had to call home to Mississippi for his dad to wire him bail money. Happy Veterans Day. All my dad has manageed to tell me was that he almost died 3 times due to grenades. That has been as much as i have gotten out of him. He too does not like to talk about it.
