Bill Paxton in talks to direct Kung Fu feature - Movie News | JoBlo.com
This maybe old news to some. In general, I'm against remakes. The original Kung Fu wasn't really high drama or great fighting. It is what it was, cheaply made period drama with a small does of philosophy. I was reading a recent interview and Bill said that it will be culturally authentic, meaning they will cast an asian actor. Will it have subtitles too? This being hollywood, it will be excessive in the worst ways. It'll be huge, expensive, loud, stylized, action extravaganza. Kung Fu was a quiet introspective show. Hollywood will bastardize it. Even calling it Kung Fu is inaccurate as there was very little fighting. While Caine must come to america, I find the old west very ugly in a visual and aesthetic sense. Westerns just aren't pretty or interesting. SanFranciso? New York? Maybe? Adaptations often have a built in audience and is often catered to them. It should aim for a general movie audience. Instead of being a slave to the original source, take the spirit of Kung Fu and go somewhere we've haven't been before. More like the mature Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Not Ninja Assassin.
